Step one: Send in more police from all agencies. Step two: Open a few factorys, and small businesses. Step three: Better education on how to support yourself and family by working. Final note - The state should ask for funding to start a program to demolish all the uninhabitable homes and buildings. This will make options for new housing and businesses; a "revamp program" would also create jobs.

Better educational system, job training centers, non-profit community social organizations (religious and non-religious), community out reach programs, financial assistance for safe daycare, sustainable jobs, affordable housing, strictly enforcing city safety codes on rental properties, speeches by people who can inspire others, mentoring programs, welfare program that requires a person to become financially self-reliant and offers different levels of assistance to help that independence be obtained. Good medical and mental health care services, where the costs are based on each individuals financial situation. All of the above, should include jobs opened to those residents who want to help. On the job training, to help those develop needed skills for all community serving positions. There is no quick, easy and tax payer free fix. It would take lots of time and effort by those within the community and those coming in to help revitalize the community. It will take tax dollars but if the result is lower crime and criminal convictions, it will save tax dollars. Those are just my ideas on what might help but you can't make people change, they have to decide that for themselves. Law enforcement can help in some areas but not fix the communities issues. hope actual help in offered in the communities that need the assistance.

I didn't mention a really important issue that is causing more problems for people in many communities. Politicians need to start speaking for the people they represent and helping the people they represent. They need to be held accountable for their lack of action(s). Maybe there's a way to put forward a bill, that would allow the voters to reevaluate a politicians job performance after six months, by voting. Basically, a probationary period for them to show they are going to do their job. A way for the voters to decide and reevaluate the pay of their elected political leaders. They shouldn't be able to earn a lot of money and benefit from the title if they're not doing the job. Also, especially in cities where people are suffering, the politicians that represent them should be the first ones enacting solutions and physically out there aiding. Political platforms need to become more of a contract to the people they represent. It would be great, if some of these politicians had to go out in their cities and truly live among the people they represent. No more hiding from or ignoring the issues that surround the people they represent. I hope the country can take back control from corrupt and neglectful politicians.

+biggie chesse there hasn't been a republican mayor of Chicago since 1931, are you SO ignorant as to really believe he is somehow responsible for the current situation? OR do you actually think that in the 86 years since democrats have had control they have just been trying to fix what he did all those years ago? just like that one man said, "you want me to give up the only way I have to feed my children and keep a roof over their heads without something to replace it" so by your logic F*** republicans for trying to bring jobs back to these areas and giving people a way to lift themselves out of their situation huh? lets just give them some more free shit cause that has done WONDERS so far...

Biggie Chesse poverty and hunger has nothing to do with republicans. Capitalism helps eliminate hunger and the best way to get people out of poverty is to start creating wealth instead of redistributing it.

Chicken Noodles Exactly, most of those gang members never finished high school and due to their current legal status (most of them have felonies and other shit) they will never be able to finish it. So, they’re kinda stuck, it’s either: be in a gang or work at the dollar store/fast food restaurant. It’s pretty sad but they have no one else to blame but themselves.

They need God. Just look what has happened in this country ever since God has been removed from society especially in the schools. It's not just a coincidence that this country has become downright evil. You'll have atheists saying that this statement is untrue but just think about it.

What an ignorant comment section. No one in this comment section has the balls to come down here and say any of that. I guarantee it. I now have the upmost respect for this reporter for taking a stand and going out to actually talk to people on the streets. I wish instead it were a legislature or a politician or anyone else with "power". I don't even care if the reporter/fox news did this interview out of spite to turn around and say "look how ignorant they are and how uneducated they are, etc, etc. The fact that he went to the streets and talked to them, I have nothing but respect to give because that is what is required to make change.

you have been doing that for past 15 years in Afganistan and Iraq and how is the result?? still fighting!!! violence can never stop violence, you must provide alternatives, if you fire bullets at even a kid, he will fire back, instead tell him to play football, and there you go, he will be busy playing with football!! all it takes is hope!! show them the ways for bright future, and they will , else they end up being gang members!!
