brilliant vid! Really unfortunate there isn't more pitcams of musicals out there. I'm a trombone player and those in the video seems great, the more trombones the better ;)

Yea definitely! I always found these types of videos helpful when I was learning them so I thought I’d do my part in helping! Also helping me ease my storage 😅

Yo man, what’s the name of those soft sticks that you used at the start when warming, I need themmm

Hey! Those are just mallets haha, heaps of stick companies do them. Mine specifically are the meinl drum set mallets, they come in either "super soft", "Medium", or "Hard" Hope that helps! Scott.

Is that just a club kit? Awesome by the way, the sight reading is true on point

They are definitely NOT sight reading. It’s the tour. They can probably play it without music….played hundreds of times.

How cool. It sure sounds different from the pit. Is this Broadway?

Yea it does doesnt it! Playing with In ear monitors really helps as I can hear every little detail I need to hear :). This is most definitely not Broadway, just a community theatre season, I'll take that as a compliment though!

I have a question as a pit musician and MD I understand sometimes there are restrictions on numbers and line up in pit (budget/space) - why 2 trumpets and 2 trombones with no reeds - band sounds decent but glaringly obvious lack of winds

Hi thanks for watching! You’re completely right with the instrument choice, I believe there were a few nights of the showing which clashed with a local orchestra concert going on, meaning a lot of the proficient wind players were unavailable. We synthed the winds parts into a keyboard part which went straight to FOH. The audio from this video is just me chucking a mic in front of one of our monitors haha. It’s obviously a very less than ideal situation but I’m hoping the sound was more balanced out there than in the pit. Thanks again.

So, regarding the conductor, not that it really matters, but in triple meter the arms should go out not in on the second beat. Just saying

Hi thanks for watching! I suppose youre technically completely right but if everyones already onboard with how the music goes then in this situation I guess it isn’t too important. Plus I’m sure as the conductor she has a million more things to keep track of also. Thanks again!

Really strange choice of instruments.

Yea I agree! Musicals often call for weird, specific one off sounds or timbres so a weird mix of instruments are required :)
