I Like This Version! How Could This Song Not Be Part Of Chicago18

Yesb exactly, this stuff is just awesome, it would have become my favorite on Chicago 18, somebody's made a huuuuuge mistake by not releasing it in the album!

Agree with most other commenters-this song has an energy that 18 could have benefitted from, and it serves as a great showcase of all the voices of Chicago. The bubbly synth reminds me of the fantastic version of Holdin On by Tamara Champlin, sadly also unreleased.

Such a great performance. Can't believe it was left off. Bobby sounds better on this than any of his other solos on the album and man, how I wish Jason could always sound like he did on 18. Foster really got the best out of him.

I agree, we all Chicago fans know that Lamm does not have a good voice but in this song he barely did it good...incredible arrangements!..of course you can't expect nothing less than this when David Foster and Humberto Gatica work together...

While I like the "25 Or 6 To 4" remake, this one would not only have been much better for the album (especially with the "Beginnings" reference) but would possibly have made a fantastic first single.

This song is lively. Definitely an 80s tune, very synthesizer driven. Kind of busy, too much overlapping going on. Toward the end of the song they tied in one of their earlier hits "Beginnings". You can hear Jason singing "Only the beginning" a few times fade to out. That was a nice touch, tying the old with the new.

I heard this on a project of if you are a true fan Robert Lamm of Chicago that album was a grate project in fact Bobby did a lot of projects some with the group and others with out Chicago and they are still grate group

I don't know why, but I feel like this song should been an outtake of 17, but it definitely has the feel of 18. Love it. One of the rare ones that fell between the cracks like Good For Nothing. Wish it was the title track on the album (no hate for Niagara Falls) or the unreleased track like Daddy's Favorite Fool from 16 or Here is Where We Begin from 17.

Trouble is, Robert's writing well dried up. He couldn't write a hit song after Harry Truman and that was 1975. Robert became too dependent on cocaine. Peter sobered up and started writing and became a hugely successful writer in the group, so successful that he left the band.

I still can't believe that the band (or their producer at the time, David Foster) elected to exclude this great track! They should've removed "Over And Over" (the song on Chicago 18 which I liked the least) & replaced it with this strong, bouncy tune!

They always had a number of songs and records were real big business back then, with record companies making decisions, not always agreeing with the artists and producers, so things happened no one were in control of! Look at Chicago 21 for example! The whole album had to be remixed because the record company didn't like the sound, and changes were made!

This honestly should have replaced One More Day as the last song on Chicago 18. Both have the “all three singers” formula, but the “only the beginning” refrain at the end makes for a really nice callback and conclusion to the album. Also, I feel this song is a smidge less trite.

@yulog = This original version by Chicago has NEVER appeared on CD, not anywhere, not at anytime... The only version of the song that is on CD is from Robert Lamm's 2nd solo album "Life Is Good In My Neighborhood"... You may be referring to THAT album.
