New girls look like they are loving it. Hope Big Red feels better soon, she has the perfect mum to look after her.

Nice to see the improvement in the new girls. Big Red looks like she has something up with her reproductive system: oviduct infection, impaction, egg stuck. Typical penguin stance at times. Hope not and she perks up. ❤️

Can't feel an egg or impaction. To be honest I've never had an ex batt have egg/hormonal/reproductive issues. I've had several over the years that go like this and with individual one to one nursing, warm water bathing bottoms and ensuring they eat and drink they have all mainly recovered, apart from when they are just old and coming to their end, which sadly the ex batts do earlier than any pure breed free rangers from birth that I've had. She's a plucky girl so I'm hoping for a good outcome but aware she may be on her way. If no improvement I will get her seen as can't bear for them to suffer. She's eaten all of her scrambled egg and had some water and a little walk around xx

Thank you for this video. How old are the latest hens you've rescued and how long do they usually live ? Geoff. ( I've subscribed )

Hi Geoff, thank you so much for subscribing and for your interest. All rescued ex batts are approximately two years old at release time. The 'production line' of battery / caged (and sadly often even commercial barn and alleged 'free range') hens means that regardless of whether they are laying or not they en mass are replaced at two years of age and the entire flock sent for slaughter, going into meat production (cheap human products and pet food) which is the point at which the wonderful British Hen Welfare Trust intervene and rescue them by paying a little more than the meat industry would. When rescuing ex batts they may live for only a few days if in a really bad way but most of mine have gone from strength to strength and lived for anything up to a further five years plus. I always think that no matter how short or long their stay with me it's freedom that they deserve and I try to ensure they have everything that they require for a happy and healthy time. Roo 😊 xx

What does clipping their wings mean? Cutting their feathers? I’m new to this and so just am wondering if it hurts them?

Clipping their wings is cutting a few inches on one wing of their flight feathers to prevent them from being able to fly over their fence. I want to always keep them safe, away from predators or getting on to the road. Wing clipping is completely harmless, similar to cutting our nails. You only trim the ends where there is no blood supply. Nothing I ever do with my hens will be detrimental or harmful in any way x
