I've not done this. However I'm a drywall finisher/plasterer. And I am pretty sure this would work way better if you did not add liquid. When you add the liquid you caused the plaster reaction to happen. Therefore they are just eating plaster. If you don't add water and make the balls I bet it works much better. Idk. Maybe put some water near by. But this will not work correctly. Plaster doesn't harden twice. Mix it all up together and let them sift thru it.

I make this but I use powered plaster corn meal baking soda boric acid and sugar and wheat flower and bacon grease rats will eat pounds of this the first 3-4 days as they die off but it’ll rebloom in about 5-7 days as the baby rats will get hungry mom isn’t bringing back food too the nest and if it doesn’t get wet it’ll last for months kills mice ground squirrels rats possums and raccoons. If you have ants or roaches use everything but the plaster the boric acid is what does the bug killing . I promise your bugs will be gone unless you live in apartment building. Eventually if you pass this around the neighbors you’ll kill all the roaches in a building ❤. Bacon grease works good but hamburger grease or any type of grease .

I tried this with oatmeal instead of cornmeal. The rats loved it, but it didn't seem to work very well. I put several of them in my attic every day, and they always disappeared. After months of this, there hadn't been any reduction of noise coming from the attic at night (racing, screeching and fighting). They did love the treat however. One thing that I'm going to try that's different from this is to use cornmeal, plaster and sugar, and just put the powder into a small dish or large jar lid. Using the water, the plaster was starting to react and harden already. Pretty much like concrete. After it's already hardened, it won't harden again. Using the dry ingredients, the powder will be pulling moisture from the rat's body, and hardening then, rather than starting to harden too early from the water.

I've been having a rat war over here on my property. My next door neighbor who rents her house has tons of rat holes next to the house. She told me her landlord has more important things to do than take care of this. Long story short I had a beautiful stand of corn outside. I couldn't figure out what the hell was eating it! I finally saw one peeking out from a stack of bricks. I wish I could show you a picture of my corn. I worked so hard on that corn! I'm 71 years old so it was no easy feat! I even tied it up after a storm blew it down! It was 7 ft tall and I had 80 huge ears out there! Well to say rats are hungry is an understatement! They ate every single ear of my corn! 😢😢I did what you did with the plaster of Paris. I didn't add water, but left water for them to drink.I did baking soda and peanut butter mixed together too. We caught 16 of them in traps using of all things Snickers! Apparently they love chocolate! I bought some stuff that sterilizes the females. I'm putting that out today probably because I just got it. I have never seen anything like this in my life! I live here 16 years and this has never happened before! I've always had a garden with corn, and never had this issue! I saw some videos about what they do in New York, but I was unable to get the small pieces. Apparently if you put dry ice in the holes and then cover it, the gas it admits will kill them. So you might try that. I've also called an exterminator, but all he did was put glue traps around. I not looking forward to finding live rats in glue traps! I hate those things! Good luck and I hope your rat situation has cleared up by now! They are truly disgusting creatures! 🤢

I feel your pain. I've done absolutely everything. Jaw traps, glue traps, rubber band suffocation, electrocution, live trap cage, & several types of poison. The one store bought poison that worked the best was TomCat little green bricks. I bought a bait station & it was just for mice, too small. I didn't want to have to order a rat bait station so I put on gloves & broke it into smaller pieces on a paper plate. I have a cat so I put them only in rooms I have closed off. It was all gone in about 2 to 3 weeks. Outside I put baking soda mixed with honey jiffy cornbread mix. Put this into a small food storage container with a lid & cut a hole in the side. By doing this nonstop I have it under control now. Oh, I also called a pest control company because I was at my breaking point. Worst mistake ever. They didn't go into every room in my house to inspect. They asked me where the problem areas were but I wanted my whole house checked. They laid glue traps out & a few poison packs that my cat could easily get to. And threw one poison pack into the attic from the access. Didn't go into my attic at all. I told them I had already tried glue traps & they are way too smart for that. One of my cats ended up getting stuck to one so I threw them out. And I wasn't taking a chance with my cat & the poison packs. I paid over $400 for that too. Everyone needs to be aware of what a huge waste of money that it. And that you can do it yourself. I couldn't afford a pest removal service so it was a very stressful time for me. If you keep at it but putting out fresh poison either homemade or bought at least every month or so. And don't stop even if you think they are gone. I really hope things are better for you now since your comment a yr ago. No one truly understands just how awful it is if those nasty rats ever get on your property & stay unless they go through it. I've never been through something like that & it almost broke me.

cement, plaster, hot mud etc. are all made by dehydrating limestone in a high temperature kiln, thus turning it into a powder. When mixed with water, it re-hydrates and hardens back to stone. The reaction is reversible as I found when I made a campfire on an old concrete slab. It made a crater in the portion of the slab that was heated. Try heating a small sample of a concrete block or hardened cement, maybe with a propane torch, and it will soon crumble.

I use pieces of bread, rolled in baking soda. It does the trick. Plaster of Paris is not a food item. Once that rat or mouse is dead, it will harm whatever animal that eats it. It will cause a digestive blockage from the plaster of paris. How would you like to eat a clump of plaster if Paris in your food? Another idea is baking soda and flour. I like my bread rolled in baking soda idea, rather than flour. I have a burn barrel that I have not used in years. I opened the lid and it was full of mice with nest. I baited it, and the next day there was zero mice.

You can do this even without the sugar if you just use cornmeal or multi purpose flour at a one to one ratio with the plaster of Paris or a one to one ratio with baking soda you can just put little piles of that mixture around you don’t even have to get it wet or make the balls, they’ll just come and eat the powder

Things get out of control in the city. Three miles from restaurants and carry outs. Then, Lockdown, less business, closures. Rodents needed to expand horizons. And they did. Thing to do is...survey situation. Work with the problem, work with nature. We took down lattice sides under the porch. Over a few days, chicken bones which attracted the Fox to the porch.....oh.....look what we have here. Fox took care of them, or they otherwise relocated. Only thing between them and him, had been the wood lattice. Owls work too. Tricky part is, a water trough or birdbath deep enough to attract owls, but that does present a danger to kids. Similar problem is kids attracted to water left in a 5 gallon drywall bucket, kid topples in, and can't get out, it's been fatal. Create a hill with unopened bags of mulch would reduce stepping and tripping human feet. Cats would work, but not because they're good mousers. They've evolved to respond to the sound of a can opener. But rodents don't know that. The chemicals given off by a feline, rodents won't take the chance. Thing I see here.....you're handling the bait. They smell human. Easily avoided by wearing plastic bags as you handle the bait. Can't understand why we can't get science in on this. Rodent birth control. Why is this so hard? We have unbalanced nature, have to bring predators back which will happily go to work. Think of it....several breeds are rat terriers....those dogs walk by, owners pick up their waste in plastic bag. We've evolved to be out of balance. Good advice here, thanks for posting.

Just mix the sugar, DRY mud etc and put into an old coffee can with a hole cut into the lid. I don't think you did it correctly. When you mixed plaster of paris with water, you made it useless to kill the rat/mouse. The whole purpose of using plaster of paris is to use the plaster to mix with water inside rat's body to create chemical reaction inside their body which hardens when cured. When you mixed it with water before rats ate it, you basically are just feeding them cured plaster. The same with baking soda. You don't want to mix it with water. You want it to mix with acid inside rats body, which will trigger chemical reaction and it's that chemical reaction that will make it very uncomfortable for the rats.

If you add water, you're already activating the plaster, so you're just feeding them.. The point is for them to consume the dry powder, then drink water, which activates the plaster hardening it in their stomachs. Just mix Plaster of Paris with something the mice will like, some PBFit, some cocoa powder, flour, dry oats. There's no set ratio, you just mix in however much you need with the plaster that will entice the mice to eat it.. It usually doesn't take much of the other ingredient... Like 1/2 cup POP and 3 to 4 tbsps of your other ingredient, be it cocoa powder, or PBFit.. If using rolled oats, you just coat the oats with the dry plaster, when they eat hte oats, they get the plaster too. Then, when they go to drink water, the plaster is activated, and hardens in their guts. Make sure you wear a mask and eye protection when mixing the dry plaster mix, you definitely don't want to breathe it in.

Buy several packs of Juicy-fruit gum and take the sticks of gum out of their pack but leave on their wrapper... soak the gum in water for 10 minutes and then put one stick in each hole.. The critters eat the gum, which stays in their stomachs undigested.. the more gum they eat, the less room for food and they starve.. (the thought of it was horrific until I found all the damage they did,, and I won't use poisons cuz of our snake population,, which can still eat the packrats (full of gum) without being poisoned themselves)

Sounds like a great idea -- but your not clear on a couple things ? Do you soak the sticks of gum in water while still in their silver wrapper ? and if yes, wouldn't that stop the gum from absorbing moisture ? Also after you've soaked the gum, do you then take off the wrappers, or do you lay them out as bait, with the wrappers on ?? -- let me know ?

@@johnguarino7826 Please post results. Did the bait kill those monstrous rats? Did they keep coming and eating the bait or did they quickly learn from the death of their mates from eating the bait and then stay away from this type of bait? I have tried all kinds of traps, they only work once, the rest of the rats learn a lesson and stay away from that kind of trap.

doesn't the water activate the plaster and cause it to harden before the rats can eat it?
@Dizzyfingers2

This does not work. If you make "wet" bait, the plaster will set before the rats eat it and will not do what it's supposed to do inside the rat. Simply leave the dry mix out. The rats will eat it and look for water which will set the plaster inside.

🤔 1) using metal bins and keeping the trash off the ground and from off the top of the bin will Significantly reduce the rodent traffic in that area. 2)Installing 5 gallon buck traps ( filled with water ) in multiple areas will cut down the rodent population. 3) Placing slim Jim’s ( jerky/ sausage treats ) on the hook part of the victor rat traps and putting a dab of peanut-butter on on the jerky to entice the rats will greatly increase the success of those traps. In addition to the jerky/ peanut butter combo bending the trigger mechanism to make it more sensitive will also increase the success rates of those traps. 4) adding baking soda in equal parts to sugar and flower is another mixture which has benefits. Whereas the plaster will get hard the baking soda will expand the guts causing them to burst. 5) cleaning up all the dropping and spraying those spare as with a repellent spray ( rodent mace, tomcat repellent, repels all) in those areas. Peppermint oil could also help. I would actually soak some wood cutting in the oil and put them around the trash area. 6) and lastly. Crush up a bunch of glass into powder and mix that with the plaster and the baking soda mixtures just as a just in case thing. It will cause cause internal bleeding and assist the The two moistures. 🤔 lastly pour concrete down the rat holes either separately or in conjunction with a forger ( preferably using ammonia) the foggier will show you where other rat holes are. They then can be filled with concrete. The ammonia flogger will assist in killing any rats once the holes are sealed. Any way good luck with that.

Go to the hardware store and get a 2 inch foil and coil tube attach to your cards exhaust pipe put that in the hole and run the car until they are all killed by carbon monoxide stand ready with pellet gun to get those that run for it... Plug up the holes first and hit will kill them inside but then they might smell awhile until they turn to soil or desiccate.... I gave also used dried weeds a hair dryer and large coffee can to blow smoke down the foil tube into the holes... If you do the weeds under your shed it will smell of smoke g for some time Cedar chips make a nice odor and also deter the rats and mice as well as roaches and other critters...... As bad as your problem is I would go with cedar chips first then follow up with once a week hook to the car or lawn mower for 45 minutes to an hour for a few weeks..... Then you could go to a every few months or any time you see rat sign..... Be advised you must be careful with the exhaust as birds/chickens are 6 times more sensitive to carbon monoxide and other toxins hence the canary in the coal mines..... Of course once you kill what's there you really need industrial multi catch rat traps such as are used in graineries rice dryers and such..... They catch and record the numbers so they know what's going on...... As a truck driver I have been to many rice bins etc they have multi catch traps about every 20 feet around the outsides of all buildings.... No tollerance for rats but clean up your trash and locate trash far away from all other areas and secure the trash best to get all recyclable organics back into the ground

Yes, we are working on the exclusion part of the plan, have removed what remaining food they MIGHT'VE been eating (our feed, etc., is already stored in bins) and deal with the traps daily; we live in a raised house, so it's VERY DIFFICULT to find entry holes/spaces from the ground to under the house that they may be using. I do understand that it isn't a poison and that it binds up the rats intestines, but I just NEED to make sure that it won't do the same... Or any other harm... to our pets, who often eat/attack any rat they find, or our farm animals, or the wildlife that surrounds us that will ABSOLUTELY take advantage of any rats found!

Nooo they are gone from your area for now BUT they still exist and may eventually find their way to ANY food source. You will have to make some changes to your area to aid in success. I.E. we poured concrete down and added wire cloth all the way around our shed. We moved any seed etc and put them in metal trash cans. We also made a very warm box in our garage/shed and brought in some barn cats.

Not that it makes a great deal of difference, but still would like to know. I've also heard you mix the dry ingredients, set out in a small bowl, with a container of water nearby. The plaster only plugs them up if eaten dry, and then they drink water. Someone was correct when they said the plaster is already 'cured' by mixing it with water first. Also, where is the result from this experiment? Nothing in years?

You want to get the most effective out of the plaster. Try this, make a very thin layer of tasy meal with the flower and water. Add extra ingredients to add to the attractiveness if the mix. Then use s rolling pin to make a very very thin sheet. Then have a separate dry mixture with plaster mixed in which you use to pour small portions on the thin sheet of dough. Roll the dough around the powder mix into little tubes. Cut the edges and seal with the same dough. You are basically making little poison canollis, taco, whatever you want to call them. As an alternative to the thin dough, use fruit roll-ups or readymade pie sheet dough. Heck you can even get a box of some hard macaroni and plug one end with a food item, then fill and plug the other end. Be creative ....

I also thought that filling the inside with little bits of Alka Seltzer might work well as long as you can keep it dry. Once the Alka Seltzer mixes with moisture in the rat's stomach, it will cause a lethal chemical reaction.

What also works is equal parts of corn muffin mix and baking soda. For example 2 spoons of muffin mix and 2 spoons of baking soda. Or you can do four spoons of each and it's cheap and works! If another animal eats the rodent after it dies the mix and soda should not harm it. HOWEVER, have the actual bait in some sort of enclosed bait station so cats or dogs won't eat the mix/soda - that might could actually harm innocent animals. But it works guys!
