Thank you so much! Yes, 15 minutes was perfect for the Soaked Brown Chickpeas! I soaked it for 14 hours - overnight, covered it with water, used Pressure cooker mode for 15mts, and allowed it to cool by itself. Drained and proceeded to use it for Srilankan-style devilled chickpeas!

I prefer the taste of ones I've cooked versus canned chickpeas. The cost effectiveness and less waste (cans, packaging, etc) is a plus. While I presoak and pressure cook for 24 to 26 minutes at high altitude, I make have to try them not presoaked and cooked longer. Best wishes to you!

Thank you so much for this video. I just recently purchased the instant pot duo crisp and air fryer. I was confused about the difference instant pot but I am glad the pressure cooking language is the same. I did not know the correct ratio of bean to water for dry so this is great. Would it be the same ratio if you had soak the bean.
@LetsEatPlants
3 жыл бұрын
So glad you enjoyed! So actually, if you soak the chickpeas first, they will cook much faster. I believe in only 15 mins! 😄 For the bean:water ratio on soaked beans, I think you could probably use a bit less water (maybe even 1:2?), but I would still do 1:3 because I am always paranoid about not having enough water. 😅 Also, it's better to have too much water than too little! Just a note, these days I cook my chickpeas a bit longer when I want to make something like hummus with them, as I feel it makes them perfect consistency for blending! If I will be making hummus I cook them on high pressure for 46 mins. 🤗🌱 Enjoy!

I think you should add the cost of electricity to your cost calculations. To compare 1:1 you should also include your labor cost, that is why can goods are much more expensive than home made.
@LetsEatPlants
Жыл бұрын
You can definitely add that in! The labor is very minimal since it is just adding into instant pot, then set it and forget it (which is why I like it 😁), but the electricity is definitely something to consider if yours is expensive. 😊

What is the sea weed for?
@LetsEatPlants
4 жыл бұрын
Supposedly it can help with gas. 😄 Here’s some info I found online about it: “Similarly, the seaweed trick works because kelp naturally contains an enzyme that breaks down oligosaccharides. When you soak or boil beans with kelp, the enzymes from the kelp break down oligosaccharides in the beans, preventing them from causing gas.” In addition it can add some nutrients, as seaweed is rich in many vitamins & minerals. 😊

Do you have to turn the pressure cooker off then let it do natural release or do you keep it on keep warm while pressure is naturally released
@LetsEatPlants
3 жыл бұрын
It always turns off by itself. Usually I turn off the "keep warm" button so that it cools down faster, but if you want them to stay warm for a few hours, you can always leave that function on! I also let the pressure release naturally for these. Usually it takes about 20 mins., but you can do a quick release if you are in a hurry. 😊😊 Please let me know if you have any more questions!

I notice you didn’t include the cost of cooking the chick peas which is currently very relevant for us in the UK. I’m sure they still work out cheaper with the instant pot, but maybe not so if cooked on the stove. Ikd be interested to know any recipes where you cook chick peas straight to a meal, i’m assuming you would use the cooking water as part of the meal, not separate it out. But thanks, helpful video
@LetsEatPlants
Жыл бұрын
Oh that is a great point! A few of my subscribers have recently mentioned that electricity has gone sky high in the UK! 😥😥 Have you calculated the price differences between stovetop cooking and pressure cooker cooking? The only other thing to consider there is that stovetop takes a bit longer, although I guess not *much* longer considering you need to wait for the Instant Pot to come up to pressure. Usually including that time + cook time, mine takes about 1 hour 10 mins. or so. Stovetop is usually minimum of 1.5 hours, sometimes longer (after overnight soaking of course). When I use chickpeas in a meal, I do usually remove the cooking water first-- you can save it though! It's called aquafaba so you may see some recipes call for it specifically. 😄 The only recipe where I use it regularly is hummus. Aquafaba makes a *great* addition to hummus! If you're looking for more chickpea recipes, check these out! kzitem.info/news/bejne/136sk2WYj3Rqomk

@@LetsEatPlants electric has gone up but gas has gone up more. My stove top is gas, but oven is electric. I haven’t worked it put properly but its almost certainly cheaper with electric pressure cooker. I’m checking;g out recipes for pressure cooker(thats how i came by your channel) and slow cooker. I’m particularly keen on pressure cooking and leaving pressure to reduce without releasing the valve, feels like free cooking time. Pasta 1 min and leave. Rice 3 mins, just about to try some small potatoes for 2 mins. On the figures you were quoting I’d be tempted to think its still cheaper to cook your own chickpeas than tins, but the margin is reduced.

Oh no! I’ve never had them be overcooked… that’s so interesting. The instant pot official timetable says anywhere between 35-40mins (instantpot.com/instantpot-cooking-time/#tab-id-3), but lately I’ve been cooking them for 65 minutes and they still aren’t mushy or overcooked, so I’m really surprised about that. 😣😣 Maybe they were really fresh? That’s the only thing that usually makes a difference in how they cook, besides soaking.
