Yesterday we said goodbye to Grandpa/Great Grandpa and recently Charlotte and I took some time to walk one of my favourite childhood walks up Melbury Beacon.
I used to walk up there with him and Grandma many a time and it was incredibly special to watch Charlotte walk all the way to the top too.
I wanted to share this today, on what would have been his 93rd birthday, as a tribute to him.
Fontmell and Melbury Downs are National trust owned and this is their largest chalk downland site to visit.
Thomas Hardy’s novels were set in this incredible landscape of natural beauty and so it was brought in his memory and to protect it.
The climb up Compton Down and on up to Melbury Beacon takes you up 263 metres high but this is truly a magical Dorset walk, as you are rewarded by some of the best 360 views. Looking out over the Blackmore Vale, Vale of Wardour and Shaftesbury, where you can stop at the trig point and admire, this wonderful county from above.
