Definitely check out Kissing The Shadows - infamous guitar/synth dual solo ending with the most insane shredding on both instruments. IT's very famous and soooo super sick! Follow The Reaper is their best album, which that song is on. Besides Kissing The Shadows, I'd recommend Mask of Sanity, super accessible and melodic but also fierce and heavy. Rock on bois ! \m/

This band helped me get into more extreme stuff. They'll always hold a special place for me, and RIP Alexi Laiho, dude is an absolute legend and helped shaped a lot of modern artists going back to solos in the early 2000s. Follow the Reaper is my favorite album. This one (Hatecrew) really launched them into worldwide fame. Kissing the Shadows and Northern Comfort are amazing songs. That second song was supposedly written as a album filler last song and MAN does it shred.

I have some great melodic and heavy suggestions from COB. "Silent Night, Bodom Night" is brutal. Next we have "Hate Me" and "Taste of my Scythe" . "Bed of Razors" is also an amazing song and one of my personal favorites. "Not My Funeral", "Done with Everything, Die for Nothing", "Downfall" to name a few others🤘🏻

Children of Bodom brought the unison Keys/guitar sound associated with prog to the death metal scene and actually composing songs with that in mind, making it de facto super melodic. First "heavy" metal band i listened back in high school. I think that most people, me included, would put Follow the Reaper and Hatebreeder as their top records. Maybe check Bed of Razors for a very keyboard centric song (for death metal anyways) or Kissing the Shadows for the guitar solos we love so much. Finally, i'd say their most popular song is probably Everytime I Die and my personal favorite is Silent Night, Bodom Night. Have fun discovering COB 😃

I always considered this song about heartbreak, with the angel being the idealized version of a partner he was with and that partner breaking his heart and plunging him into a deep depression. - Bodom Beach Terror - Trashed, lost and strungout - Downfall - Hate Me! - Needled 24/7 - Kissing the Shadows - Roundtrip to Hell and back - Lake Bodom - Silent Night, Bodom night - Sixpounder .. to name a few! Applying the idea of drum fill but doing it with the guitar or taking an idea from one instrument and applying to another instrument in general is actually something COB did quite a bit in Hate crew deathroll. Jaska Raatikainen (the drummer) mentioned this in a recent interview with Anssi Kippo (the producer).

Richard has such impeccable taste when it comes to finding stuff to show. It's broad and includes big household names and classics many metal fans will instantly recognize, but manages to be quite approachable at the same time. Every other video I go "oh yeah, of course, damn, that one!" Hate Crew Deathroll is such a blast from the past btw, Sixpounder was literally the first extreme metal song I ever heard. I was 12 years old, or something, now well into my thirties and still think this album's a banger.

correction "one minute you're an angel fallen from grace Next, The FIX that i hate" the lyrics you got were incorrect.. its not fist.. its FIX... like a drug... The song is about hating yourself and wanting to die Begging an angel to KILL the pain inside yourself.. even though they say Angels don't kill... It's a torn soul begging an angel to kill the pain inside himself.. even though angels aren't supposed to kill... Thats the song meaning. Alexi is finnish.. he was told many many MANY times to clean up his vocals and he refused.. he WANTED his vocals to be as they were. thats what he liked and he didn't care if others didn't like it.. Its the way he wanted his music... I disliked his vocals at first.. but his style does grow on you after some time... its an aquired taste... and once you learn to enjoy it.. you wouldn't have it any other way.. Bodom ROCKS Id like to see you cover Bed of Razors off the record Hatebreeder... very keyboard heavy and the song is great.

Richard asked about the pronunciation so here we go. It is a bit of a curveball cause Bodom is a Swedish place name but also the Finnish name of the infamous lake is "Bodomjärvi (Lake Bodom)". Proper Swedish way to say is like [boo dom]. But then again the band members used the common Finnish way which was just [bodom], short vowels like [ba-dum-tshh] but with O's. But apparently the English way goes very well so don't mind too much about this.
