I agree with the Guest, that blaming this other woman for possibly inspiring this mass murder is a real stretch considering they'd only met 2 months previously. As the profiler mentioned, it seems far more likely that he was building up to this act over many months possibly years, as he steadily felt more and more resentful and angry towards his wife but keeping it inside like a pressure cooker about to blow.
@marymckenna6482

Radio, they may have only met 2 months prior, but the evidence is overwhelming that Nicole stalked the family for a year. She deliberately went after Chris and then manipulated him. When she found out that Shanann was pregnant again, she gave Chris an ultimatum, even stating that SHE wanted to be the one to give him a son. Does not excuse anything Chris did, but follow the phone evidence of the night of the murders. She was in touch with him all night.

To me, it wouldn't explain why he said he tried to kill his girls before his wife, but ended up taking them to the battery and murdering them there; shoving them into oil tanks. Much more likely he did it for the life insurance he had taken out on his wife and each of the girls through his work. Life insurance he lied about to the police, claiming it was much less. We found out the true amount when his family laid claim to that life insurance and got some. CW, I believe, is incapable of feeling the way normal people do. I think his family meant nothing to him all along, except to boost his ego. And so it was pretty easy for him to discard them when he wanted something else. And that's why he could throw them away with such callousness. And why he could talk with the realtor about selling the house right after disposing of them. And also why he was able to have a conversation with his mistress about the value of his wife's wedding ring later that same day.

The Watts Family, a Cautionary Tale: Based on information provided, Shannon, in spite of having lupus, was so driven by personal ambition, and so obsessed with her girls (like so many relationships) She lost interest, lost sight of what her #1 priority should have been, her marriage/family: Chris became an object that she factored in her busy, busy life. Like so many spouses, if their partner is not interested in them - there are others who are. Chris' actions cannot be explained or excused; but Shannon had to have been aware that he was disgruntled, but did not heed the warning because she was self-absorbed.

Signs of a person may committ crimes, are usually small on the surface, but they may be a top of a huge iceberg. Why, because they have a common denominator and that is - disagreeableness, which is the basic and telling-most trait of antisocial personality disorders. Chris Watts, from what I know have shown these kind of signs already in the beginning. Shannan rejected him when he asked her out. He didn´t respect her decision of saying "no", and asked her over and over again until she accepted. This tells that Chris didn´t respect Shannan´s feelings and was not agreeable. He was interesed only to win her consent/only to win her. This is why the beginning is very important, and it is in the beginning that we get our first thoughts but also ou first decisions. The intentions which people have in the beginning, may remain the same throughout the whole relationship. People with antisocial personality disorder, seems aren´t capable of makig questions, because they are not interested in what the other thinks and feel and so they don´t want answers. They want subjections. They want the other to subject themselves to them and serve them. This sign can be seen even in small behaviours.

To me from reviewing this case for months. Chris Watts started taking unregulated substances (I forget what his wife was selling). He may have also taken other untraceable substances (steroids). I don't know if you know there are people in this world who never a life a finger in violence but can chronically torment the hell out of their spouses and children. Even their closest friends don't know the extent of that side of them. Their families of origin (parents & siblings) do know there's a crazy to their child and sibling but will sit in a denial of how badly they are hurting their spouse and children. So, IMO, we cannot judge the victim as pure & innocent (they may have been, but we really don't know). We can be honest without condoning murder.

Maybe the trigger for Chris Watts is when his wife surprised him with the "great" news that she was pregnant AGAIN. From what I read, he was struggling to pay to bills and support his family and then his wife, without discussing it with him or any planning for another child, gets pregnant again. I saw the video she recorded when she sprang the "good" news on him and he tried to look happy but he was not. Maybe something snapped right at that moment. He was already at the edge and the thought of another mouth to feed just sent him over that edge. Obviously, these two did not talk to one another. And obviously, Chris was mentally ill that killing the entire family was the solution. I also read recently that he wants out of prison and has engaged his lawyer to try and get him out. He found God in prison and feels he has much to offer the world. Wow.

I'm sorry, but filing for bankruptcy in 2015 for over 448K dollars is a major flag for family members to be extremely watchful because I can tell you that it almost never goes well after such a financial hit. From that moment any feelings of being "trapped by your family" will undoubtedly be exacerbated if already present and certainly begin if not already there. That feeling of being "trapped" may help to fully explain murdering all of them because the two daughters were from that time period and for him would represent an extension of who he considered the real source of his woes--that being his wife. And further is that even though plans of a new life and starting over would most certainly never come to fruition, even had he managed to depart without violence, he would have no true success with a new life or wife or even single scene if trying to maintain ties with his original family or in trying to have a dating life with two young daughters and one on the way--I'm just being a little realistic about something like that as we all know that kind of situation is untenable for any significant length of time. So having stated all that, are there any reports that the wife knew of the affair or any relatives or friends? A lot of times (and I am not pinning any blame or accusation), somebody close always knows and informs and many times the person that a partner is having an affair with will even inform the other for any number of reasons including simple spite.
