Video from day & night 4 of the Chimney Fire in West of Paso Robles, CA near the Running Dear Ranch and Lake Nacimiento Communities. While the morning and early afternoon was relatively quiet, the evening brought extreme fire behavior to Lime Mountain Road (which is the end of Chimney Rock, past the locked gate and towards the lime mine). Despite best efforts, the fire was spotting over 1/4 mile ahead of itself and flames established themsleves on the other side of Lime Mountain Road, into the Gallegos Ranch area. Firefighters had prepared structures in that area earlier in the day and feel fairly confident homes will not be harmed.
Concern grew slightly over fire moving towards the Oak Shores area (North of Lake Nacimiento) - it literally only takes "one spark" and with the fire embers blowing around, the thought of one crossing the narrows was possible. Sheriffs Deputies and Firefighters were on patrol in those neighborhoods on firewatch. Most recent numbers on the fire are 6900 acres, 20% contained.
Several of you have asked how you can contribute to SLOStringer.... thank you so very much! SLOStringer is a one person volunteer operation all funded out of my own pocket. I really do enjoy getting all of you timely, accurate, informative news and pictures, but their are definitely financial costs incurred. Your donation will help me continue to bring all of this to you. If you are interested in contributing, donations can be made via PayPal (you dont have to have an account) at www.tinyurl.com/SLOStringerDonate. Someone also asked about sending a check - that can be done to PO Box 4302, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-4302. To all of those that have donated - either recently or in the past, a heartfelt thank you!
Hope everyone has a great day today, and THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS!
