Chin down, why?
The lips remain loose, of course. If the chin cannot be pulled down without help, the fingers can be used. Either the fingers create a counter-reaction by pushing the chin up or you simply pull your chin down with your fingers and try to hold it that way.
If you can now feel the chin muscle you are looking for, there are three methods of training it.
1️⃣ The muscles are tensed and relaxed in slow steps. This is already happening by building the maximum contraction step by step.
2️⃣ The muscles are tense and relaxed in quick steps. However, this training method is the most unfavorable because the ratio of time required to success in practicing speed is physiologically not good.
3️⃣ The most important training method for brass players is
Continuous stress on muscle contraction. This trains endurance and that means strength at the same time. In this way, only the chin muscle is tensed down and the other muscles remain loose. Every point in time is carefully observed in the mirror. If the tension subsides, you have to retighten.
