NEW DELHI: The Chinese Parliament in its just concluded session endorsed an unprecedented third term for President Xi Jinping. In his speech, Xi listed his priorities, the reunification of Taiwan being one of them. Taiwan comes first and India second, says noted China watcher Jayadeva Ranade. China has acknowledged that it has been bothered by India’s rise after 2014, Ranade told StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale on ‘Talking Point’. And given Xi’s obsession of shaping the regional security environment, it will be easier for China to do something on the 4000-km-odd border with India and claim victory than to launch an assault on Taiwan where the American factor is directly involved, said Ranade.
