Su shi, Chinese name 苏轼,a great poet in China's Song dynasty, once said:此心安处是吾乡。(means:where keeps my mind peace, where is my hometown.) God Bless You!

Being an immigrant living in another country for almost three decades, this video touched my soul deeply. I can feel your nostalgia for your home in Sweden as well as the home away from home in your dorm in Shanghai. The dorm building I lived in for 4 years in Kunming Teacher's College was dilapidated and infested with big rats. When I revisited the campus in 2001 after having graduated for 18 years and having lived in America for 9 years, the dorm building has been replaced with a new building, which made me sad and happy at the same time. Sad because no matter what, that old building was my home for 4 years. I was young and happy in those days. I felt happy because the students can now enjoy better living condition than I did. So what is home? Home is where your love is. Without love and a sense of belonging in your heart, no matter where you go, you will always feel homeless and floating without roots.

What you say resonates strongly with you. I love to travel, but slowly, repetitively, staying long to learn a place. The biggest journeys of my life so far have all been for work, and have helped me see that work, too, is a home of sorts - wherever I go, I know what I am for. I grew up in northern, rural surroundings. It has taken me decades to see myself as an urban person; and that became possible because I found a house here where I could make a home that holds many of the things I valued most about my rural life - old-fashioned, handmade things, gardens, music. Home is with me always - memories of loved ones departed (today marks 19 years since my oldest sister passed away), memories of friends near and far (some perhaps never to be met again in this life), songs I carry now... thank you for this beautiful video essay.

When I saw you try to communicate with the local people who can't speak English, and you try to eat some very very traditional Chinese food. I'm so happy. The concept of having multiple homes exists in German language as well. There are two words "Heimat" and "Zuhause". The first is where your roots are, if they are in multiple places where they are deepest and you feel the most at home. "Zuhause" can be the same place, but does not have to and one can have multiple "Zuhause". It tends to refer to a compounded space while "Heimat" is rather a whole region where you know literally every stone.

This video is very philosophical, reminding us of contemplating the essence and nature of home, the true meaning of home/family/life. When I watched this video, what occurred to me was the old saying in my home town: Gold house, and silver house is no better than my doghouse. We Chinese always compare home to a peaceful port and harbour where you can recover from your fatigue, from the excruciating struggle of the outside world, a place where you can find warmth and tranquility. It seems that not only we Chinese think that way, but the people all around the world think that way as well. Therefore, your question also led me to think of the two Hollywood movies I have ever watched: The Wizard of Oz, and the Bolt. In the Wizard of Oz, the protagonist Dolly returned her home by thinking “there is no place like home", and in Bolt, the song says that "There is no home like the one you've got 'Cause that home belongs to you", whose meanings, in my mind, are almost the same as the local saying of my home town: "no matter whether they are gold house or silver house, they are no better than my doghouse". Thank you, Miriam, for your insightful video, and also many thanks to your handsome and virile/masculine husband, your cute child, and your cosy homes and families both in China and Sweden for providing you with so many inspirations in life, which in turn, help you to make a lot of inspiring videos for the people who are enjoying your works!

It may be that China is developing too fast. Most people can't stop following the pace of social progress and choose a comfortable life without considering money. Money always surrounds your life, no matter where you are in the world. The simplest example is to buy medical insurance, and you need car insurance to drive. This is already the lifestyle of people all over the world, not just in China. People around the globe are fighting to make more money all the time.

A lot of clips made me guess you are very active in the west part of China, namely the tibet monks, the hui Muslim mosque, the han's marriage, han's worship toward ancestors and new year celebration etc. Later you said your husband is from Qinghai... Almost making me crying and I can feel my eyes are getting wet. Qinghai is also the place I grow up and my forever hometown. Thanks for making and share video about your life!

WOW I watched other youtubers mainly males like THE JAYOE NATION, ADVCHINA, WINSTON CMILK and a few other China vloggers who goes into China to live life get married and vlog about their life.... Most of them are male and i find it surprising to see such an EDUCATED PRETTY SOPHISTICATED Young Western Women whom actually travel to China to find love and enjoy life, not many western women are like you being open minded, THATS REALLY GREAT...

Hej Miriam! Jag älskar din video och din åsikt. Jag håller med dig. Man känner ju sig själv totalt avslappnad när man är hos nära vänner eller hos någon som man älskar då man beter sig precis som om man var hemma.
