This kinda sounds crazy but it's totally wrong. While China does have a personal credit system, the reason for using it is to combat illegal capital raising and reduce the impact of free capital on society by rating the credit of personal financial transactions. For example, when you are the owner of a company, and you are in a high-debt situation due to a broken capital chain caused by your own personal high-risk investment behaviour or poor operations, then you must pay for your own troubles, and that's when your credit is lowered. Restricting your travelling sounds crazy, but it actually prevents you from absconding offshore. The vast majority of people have a perfect score on their personal credit for the rest of their lives and there is no such thing as a points-adding system. When you have a demerit on your credit, it means that you have actually done something that you shouldn't have done. Drinking, smoking, and playing video games are normal things that have nothing to do with the credit system in the first place, and the government doesn't have that much energy to relate to whether or not you're playing games every day😂. If points are deducted, then odds are you're on the verge of breaking the law.

We already have an out-in-the-open social credit score on reddit. If you stick to a position that is not in line with a corporate interest in sub-forum "x", you pay dearly for that even if you are professional about it and honour all the rules, both in spirit and to the letter. The consequence is that you are unable to participate in other sub-forums, even though your position may be largely supported outside of sub-forum "x". In other words, popularity and lack thereof can be weaponized, with the chilling effect on speaking candidly, regardless of professionalism. It doesn't require a autocratic government. It just needs a monopoly in a certain area. A monopoly provides benefits in terms of synergy between integrated services, but also a focusing of power. A trade-off.

Without open source software we have no idea what algorithms are used to facilitate who gets approved or denied, why fines & fees are levied on some and not all, why no one seems to feel like they are taxed fairly. What the United States has been doing is social credit scoring. It is chaotic, disorganized, and profitable to those who know what they are doing.

I live in a city here in The Netherlands where it's normal for drivers to stop before a crosswalk. No social credit score needed to achieve that goal. It's also stated very clear in the law that the driver, even if you're on a bike have to stop for a crosswalk. Even it's easy to get away with not obeying this law, it's still normal and happens often here that everyone stops. Why is it that in a country with more freedoms such as The Netherlands or let's say Denmark, crime rates are lower than that of a country with less freedoms? A social credit score system isn't going to fix crime. It's only going to give more birth to fake people expressing their fake personalities until they snap. Good job, government!

Population density? Competition? Maybe its cultural? Do chinese tourists or muslim migrants behave themselves in the netherlands as well as the locals? In societies where laws aren't effectively enforced people will take advantage of the system because they know they have a realistic chance of getting away with it. In societies where the laws have been effectively enforced for so long, people might not realise that they 'can' break the rules and get away with it.

@@hughmungus2760 In societies where laws aren't effectively forced you get corrupt governments who get away with everything they can think of. Most of the ppl actually living in China have downplayed the impact and influence of a credit score system in China. Scholars talking about the credit score system have mentioned that the credit score system present in the west is more powerful and destructive at this point and that the present credit score system in China is still a work in progress. It's not unform , not standard and big part is still manual. Many have discounted its negative influence and not worse than many ppl in the west that cannot get a place to rent or a simple car loan because of abuse in the western credit score system. A disgruntled landlord can easily put a negative report into the credit score system that's not warranted. Patrick understanscthat vety well and is very disingenuous in attacking the credit scrore in China without mentioning how the same system in the West is just as bad.

Let’s interview the guy with the highest score in China. That would be interesting. The lowest scorer can’t even come outside lol

the sad part is that people will discover that this is true and even that it will come to their door step and still do nothing but comply...

It is already in place: all the big players Google, Meta even Spotify etc, and the bigger srapers AI scrap so much data that they know more about you than you know about yourself it is just the data is not visible to the public. You/we already dance to their tune and more to come. All for he greater good :)

China has (supposedly) a credit system, based on what people do: if they steal, break the law, etc., their credits go down. US has also a credit system, based on what you are: if you are poor, or live in a poor neighbourhood, if you are black or Latino, you don't have credit.

Na, the US has a FAR worse system in the public felony list, in that if you ever committed a crime that goes on record, your chances of getting a job or rehabilitation are slim to none. In china, their criminal records aren't public.
