Dachsweiler. Another great and important episode. The term “the cost to the land”, and the notion to figure this into the equation is woefully absent from most conversations about agriculture. Hopefully shows like Change Agents can change this - good on ya for being part of the solution.

Great show guys. Very interesting. Ive been living on the same farm that my great-great grandparents was born and raised on in a small town in middle Tennessee. My 10 year son told me the other that our dirt smells better than his little buddies garden. I think he's right. When your sweat and blood mixes with the dirt for 50 years or in his case 10 years it does smell better. It smells like home. Im very fortunate to drink from the same spring that my ancestors drank from. God has lessed us with this beautiful land and its up to us to take care of it and pass it on to our children. I love our little piece of paradise.

Andy! Great podcast! I've been a fan of IRONCLAD and Cleared Hot since the start. A great way to to get great locally grown/raised food is to join a CSA, Community Supported Agriculture. I get veggies, fruit and herbs at Sea to Sky farm in Bonny Doon. All my beef, pork, chicken, lamb comes from a ranch in 1/2 Moon Bay. Markegard Family Ranch. Keep up the awesomeness. Thank you for your service! Skid Mark aka, Paul, from Bonny Doon.

Nothing has made me want to pull the trigger on buying a homestead more than learning China is buying US farmland.

I live in rural America and the gmo farming is TOXIC! No one knows how much spraying has to go into gmo farming. Kills everything around it including soil erosion but doesn’t hurt the crop. And trees and water life are dying. Slowly but constant

Always good subjects on this show as someone else said there should be more views, and like he was talking about I purchase my meat from a local farm. I have my own chickens and gardening and such.

Way out of your wheelhouse Stumpf. But it's cool to see wide variety of guest/information. I have AO specific questions but every time I wanted to ask, he talked about something else that caught my attention. Squirrel!

I'm only 11 minutes in... And I can tell you that if your sole focus is on genetic development of a monocrop, you're still working towards having major issues. We need more biodiversity in our plantings to do any of this right. I'm speaking from almost 2 decades worth of experience. A good farmer is focused on making good soil as well as good food, as one literally feeds the other, which in turn feeds us. I'm not saying that we can't move forward with genetic enhancement of our crops... But I am saying we need a better system than growing fields of the same shit, everywhere. It's like a beacon for pests... You're practically sending out the bat signal for problems. The larger your monocrop, the more massive, bright (and stupid) your bat signal becomes.😂😅 Even if you get a good few years, you're pushing the insect, bacteria and fungal communities to figure out how to use this resource that's all around, on a genetic level. Remember: nature hates a vacuum. Our farmers are stupider than I thought, if they're so hellbent on doing things the way they've always done it... Look at the loss of good topsoil alone from modern farming practices- holy crap! 😂😂😂😅😅

This is a great conversation. Over the past 10 years or so I have really focused more on buying my food locally. I live in a large city in the Midwest and it is really easy to do this. Interestingly enough it started when I moved from the Suburbs to downtown. I shop at the city's last remaining original market, and have made connections with local farmers who are all less than a 1 hour drive away. I now have 6 farms in my regular rotation from where I get both meat and produce. If I want something closer there are plenty of local butcher shops that I know use only local meats. I have no idea what meat costs in a grocery store, and I don't care. The prices weren't vastly different when I starting doing this so I assume that's still the case, and for all I know I might even be getting it cheaper, but I know for sure it's better quality. I also never have to worry when there are "recalls" or warnings for meat because my meat doesn't go to a large processing center.

Start building to agriculture and not to aesthetics. Gardens not lawns. If you build a house instead of primary landscape being sterile trimmed lawns and bushes, incorporate the gardens into the initial build. Irrigation can be done upfront for the gardens, trees, and greenhouses. Making land sustainable doesn't mean it can't be aesthetically pleasing also. The more people resources are used for self sustainability means less resources for factory farms and a healthier population.
