Magnificent video! You had some high quality equipment for 2008, looks like you're really there.
This is what the iron mines in Minnesota would have looked like 90 years ago, with good sound and video quality. Thanks for the trip in the Wayback machine!

@@danielthoman7324 70 years ago (1950) Oliver Iron Mining was almost fully dieselized. The other mining companies in Minnesota had pretty much all switched to trucks.

Just got back from visiting Zhalai Nuoer. Sad to say there is no steam left. The last steamer SY1618 was gone.

The mine closed and it might be a park now. You can still find it on google earth. The rails were lifted from the Sandaoling opencast mine a few months ago and trucks now do the work.

Летом 1982 года довелось служить на границе в тех краях и в бинокль наблюдались те же паровозы. Уже тогда это поражало архаичностью происходящего так как в СССР паровозы почти уже не использовались.

Steam locomotives didn't fade out in the USSR, they all faded when the USSR dissolved.

Я бывший работник каръера, да наши экскаваторы самые лучшие , надёжные , простые в производстве , не дорогие , экономичные, и долговечные , на наши экскаваторы люди с училища на экскаватор и на пенсию выходят, а экскаватор продолжает дальше служить .

Moving track in a rail pit like this is pretty much a full time job. At Minntac in the 70's in Minnesota we had about 450 people on various track gangs.

It's "KNOWN reserves", y'see... According to some earlier "predictions" about oil reserves we should have run out of it by the '90s - which, AFAIK, did not happened.

Lignite ( Brown Coal). MAKES Briquetes mixed with Black coal dust and coal tar. Low Quality BTUs,but easily excavated by open cut. This mine has a Zig-Zag track system, rather than a Spiral System ( mine is Rectangular rather than circular.

I would love to run that drag line for a day, let them know I'm available, 1 week free labor. Lots of Wonton, egg rolls, and the big drag line and all the beautiful chinese woman. Of course my japanese wife would be PISSED OFF.
