JS class 2-8-2 number JS6243, hauls a heavy train of limestone from the quarry at Yangjiaoxiang, over a range of hills and to the factory in the city of Huludao on the East China Sea coast. The condtion of the locomotives on this line meant that every train had to stop at the summit of the climb to build steam up again. This usually took around 10 minutes. A feature of the line was the use of turntables to turn the locomotives at each end of the line. Turntables are not common in China. Sadly, the line within Huludao is no more. The cement factory it served is demolished and there are blocks of flats built on some of the former trackbed. The quarry still operates and stone is shipped out by rail using diesels. The turntable at Yangjiaoxiang is still in place. Filmed in June 2004.
