I mean, I recall several people, myself inc., who said we should do a no fly zone from day 1, give Ukraine planes, tanks, everything, as soon as. 'Red lines' mean next to nothing. Tyrants lie. They manipulate. Putin is just playing from the book of the tyrannical dictator: oppress your people, frighten your neighbours - lest they get wise to your weakness and overthrow you. Unfortunately (esp. for conflicts where it's good v evil), the US has always been isolationist (I'm Australian fyi). Just think WWII, took 'em literally being bombed themselves to get their own troops involved, the people there are quite individualistic and thus can be self-interested, so it's America First once again for a good number of people. This is why I sometimes wish Britain still ruled the world, whilst imperialist defo has its downsides, it also means the populace cares more about international affairs.

@jackiemack8653 yeah. It's been like that since 2008 or so. Chechnya gets most funding out of all Russian provinces and that buys loyalty. Once money stop coming they will separate.

Russia doesn't need China with Ukraine war. Get it right. China has said it did not want anything to do with the war . Russia has done it on its own. It was said when it was started. Where were you?

George Barros is such an amazing guest and a wealth of knowledge about every aspect of this conflict. I hope he returns, though there were some moments he fell in using "um" waaaay too much when he was thinking on the fly, but it just seemed to come and go. That was the only minor critique of an otherwise brilliant interview.

@@DistractedDaisy It's not, many speakers struggle with that and it's something most of us do without even knowing about it and someone needs to tell you about it so you can improve your public speaking abilities. You should have seen the comments on one female speaker last week (maybe on DW) who got torn apart in the comments because her "Um" probably was so distracting that many people could't focus on her message, which was good, but overpowered by poor public speaking skills. If no one gives you constructive criticism, how can you improve?

Not sure if serious but Taiwan is a part of the first island chain and as such is strategically very important since all the other islands in the chain are allied with the US

The price for Putin in his lost gamble on Ukraine is that long defenseless border with China. When Putin couldnt keep the US tied down in their concern for Kharkiv, Xi had to abandon his menacing of Taiwan. Now he knows Putin’s toys don’t work, there’s no reason to be bashful about Mongolian/Siberian expansion. Strap up

Chinese 🇨🇳 property sector, which accounts for 30% of GDP, is crashing. -Exports and imports, accounting for 37% GDP, are down. -Foreign investment is falling over 90% compared to it's peak in 2018. -Foreign visitors are down 96% compared to the pre-pandemic level in 2019. -Consumer prices are experiencing deflation. -Youth unemployment hits over 21%, a record. -It's fast shrinking workforce is 10 years old than neighboring countries. Still, China keeps reporting outrageous GDP numbers. Lol Now China 🇨🇳 are being threatened by many internal problems, like : Their population are sharp declining . Its economic slowdown . Increasing of their national debt . Growing of corruption . Political & social unrest . Its relations unrest with many countries . Tofu dreg project . CCP & Xi made disasters . & many more.

If this is the Western view of China the game is already over. Central Asian, African and South East Asian countries correlate China's rise with the return to their own Golden ages, this is the benefit of not trying to colonize everyone around you when you are powerful.

If Biden won't step down and leave the campaign to a more capable candidate I think Trump is destined to win the election in November. All signs point to Trump being sympathetic to the Russians in general but I fail to see how targeting a children's hospital is persuasive to the leadership of other countries.
