Thanks for taking the time to do the video, I've had my machine for a few months now and I have found it very user-friendly and easily customizable and modifiable, I've done a few things to my machine and made a couple of videos showing what I've done on my channel, thanks again 😊👍🏻

Fantastic solution. I'm a sewing machine repair tech and am only watching videos on this topic out of interest, and this is how it's done. The other designs, even with the larger size of universal sewing machine motors, they will burn out the motors long before this thing even slows. I haven't even seen anyone running those little 1.5 Amp (or less) motors with reduction gears to drop speed to increase the low end torque and ultimately the control over the machine . Also, they will be running the motors slow, which will convert the electricity running through the foot pedal to heat and ultimately wear them out prematurely. Your setup is ideal.

I was able to run it on a 30w motor with a reduction pulley. I bought a 180w motor but it was really a 30w motor. It is dangerous to trust anything made in China.

Nicely done sir. You are quite the craftsman. I just finished putting my Chinese Patcher back together after dismantling, cleaning and doing some mods, although not to the extent that you have modified yours. My biggest hurdle was timing the machine once it was back together. That was quite the effort, but once I finally grasped the concept of the operation, it was smooth sailing. Congratulations on a job well done. I'm sure your wife will be pleased.

Thank you for your video and knowledge, that is exactly what I was looking for. A little help for those wanting to motorize the machine, here in the USA (I have no idea about anywhere else, I would assume other countries actually use their exercise equipment) we can usually find treadmills that people are getting rid of either for free or very little money. Most have decent motors and speed controls, I have made many shop "tools" out of old treadmill motors.

All I have done is far is set my machine up , so now I'm looking at many videos and I was going to use a singer motor but I have a treadmill that's not being used , I am glad that I seen your video, so far you have made the best video I have seen.. An excellent video, thank you for sharing this. My only complaint is I wish there was some way to note at the beginning of any video that this can be accomplished with regular house hold tools or if you need to have a lathe/foundry/milling machine etc. instead of it being in the middle of the video. Again not slighting your video, but some of us are not home machinists.

Here is an idea to do with that machine (if I had one)...drill a small hole in the spindle on which the bobbin carrier rides...run a thread up from the bottom of the sewing arm through it (maybe some wire thread guides leading to it) and leave out the bobbin all together (but leave in the carrier) and never wind one again. Remove the bobbin winder. That's how comercial machines work.

Add needle bearing washers, to shim for gaps, clearances, tolerances and flat file ect.. for the differences, Needle bearing washers are the cats meow - used them on my snow blower auger as they take a pounding when chopping ice chunks.

Excellent placement for the bobbin winder mite you by chance remember what Model machine that bobbin winder came from Please. I have 2 of these machines, one came with bearings one the armatures, and both sides of the cam, but I also had to bend and tweak these arms for better placement. Regarding the sheave grove on the cam drive, if one has a grinder the grinder could be placed/clamped to the machine or held in place with a brace, while someone turns the crank and form a belt grove. Excellent information Sir.

That is what I had thought and planned to do also. I dont have access to a metal lathe, so I am going to use a die grinder, hold it very steady, while I have someone else turn the wheel to grind a slot.
@moonolyth

@@davemacgyver573 I would probably score a line with a cut off wheel then run a typical wheel to widen and round the groove. It should work fine withe a solid rest for the grinder.

careful and intelligent would be marking where it needs bending then taking it off and bending to shape, on a machine like these you was pure lucky the cast did not break, chip or crack, not a good idea at all

I agree in an ideal world I absolutely agree that it would be much better to take the arms off to adjust them - however, I was unable to (I can't remember why.... It was some time ago). Having spent many years working with a variety if materials - including cast iron - I was of course suitably cautious, allowing for the the inevitable poorer quality.
