Now I finally realize Indonesia also have their own version of Sinigang which we called "Sayur Asem" basically translate to Sour Vegetables.
My mom's way of cooking are just showing how she will cook with the same seasoning and different ingredients, no disrespect to REAL Sinigang whatsoever.
Here is the recipe :
Step 1
Make the chili mix first, it include 2 tsp of salt, 3 cloves Garlic, 5 cloves Shallot and Red chili depends on your liking, grind it and mix it all together
Step 2
Boil 1liter of water, put more if you want more soup.
Once the water is boiling, put in the Corns, Melinjo Seeds and Young jackfruit (optional), cook it until the ingredients are soften
Step 3
Put in the Chili Mix and Sinigang Mix into the pot and 2 bay leaf, season it with some Sugar or MSG to your liking.
For Sinigang Mix please follow the packaging, adjust and taste accordingly so it won't be too sour
Step 4
Add in Chayote and String bean cook it until it soften
Step 5
Add in Melinjo leaves and boil for another minute
Step 6
Enjoy while it's hot
