Ive been playing guitar for 23 years, all my guitars are American made (Gibson/PRS/Fender) and I recently bought a second hand Sheraton II Pro made in China in 2016. And this guitar is absolutely perfect. Very very underrated guitar. It comes with quality hardware where it counts with graphtech nut and grover rotomatics, and the probuckers are very nice. Of course there are better pups out there but not enough to justify swapping them. In my opinion the voicing of my guitar should be preserved as it is because again, its Perfect.

Great video comparison, interestingly I've got the exact same Blonde Epiphone Made in China although made in 2008, I bought it back then because it was cheap including an Epi case and sounded fantastic. I mean I was cross comparing it against Gibson 335's $5000 and up 😮 in the same shop & amp and went for it, value for money outstanding.🎉 The fit and finish is pretty much flawless like yours especially the binding. All these years later I still have and it plays like a dream. Thanks for posting, cheers from Australia 🦘🌏🎵🎸😎

Great video, Dougie. I just stepped into the world of Sheraton’s last week when I walked out of a pawn shop with one... an ‘88 Korean. It had no strings so the tail and bridge were sitting in the guitar case. Setting it up I broke an intonation screw and then in researching a fix I discovered what you did about the oddball bridge size. Standard bridges are 74mm but Sheraton’s are 72. Good news is that in 2019 there is a company, Klusan, that sells a tune-O-matic 72mm bridge for the Epiphone Sheraton. Or, they also offer an offset stud that screws into the guitars anchor, allowing for a 74mm bridge to be used. Anyways, great job on aligning that bridge and great playing on your part 2 video. Interesting. I purchased a brand new Sheraton II (Samick) in 1997 About a year ago I replaced the stock pickups with Stew Mac Parson Street Alnico II Pickups as well as the pots and caps In the 20+ years I've owned this guitar, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone state that the Chinese made instrument are superior to the Korean made ones.

I bought a used 2001 Sheraton 2 made in the Samik factory Korea when was on holiday in the US from Australia in 2004. Like you I replaced both pups with Stewmac's Parsons St PAF's (I thought that the original bridge pu was a bit "thin" sounding). I have come to love that guitar, the attention to detail is amazing & the sound on all settings is brilliant. In my experience you can buy "lemons" in anything, cars guitars etc, these days. A brand or price does not guarantee Quality.

I have an Epiphone Sheraton 2 pro that I bought from American Musical supply, made in Indonesia ( at least it had an Indonesia sticker on it) and this is one with the larger head stock and it also has the better binding and it is in Wine red, it also has really nice inlay in the neck and the tree of life has the abalone inlay also. The Probucker 2 &3 really sound great and rival the burst bucker's on my 335. This guitar play's and sound's better than my Gibson 335 by FAR. I have been playing it mostly through my Marshall DSL40C and it sound's better than most of my other semi hollow body guitar's save for my PRS which is like butter. I play blues mostly and I would never get rid of my Sheraton 2 Pro. I get all sort's of compliment's on it all the time.

I took the liberty of looking up your particular guitar since you showed the serial number in camera. Yours is a '97 model made by Samick. Samick is OK in my opinion. They made a lot of guitars for some big name manufacturers. However, I have owned several Korean Epiphones that are from the Peerless factory, and they are outstanding guitars. I used to do a lot of guitar repair, and in my opinion, the craftsmanship from the Peerless factory is the best of all of the asian Epiphones. In addition, last year I went to shopped for a brand new Sheraton, and demoed several Chinese models for several days. They were terrible. They necks were like logs and felt terrible, the fretwork was worse than amateurish, the sound was awful. I was able to find a Korean model and I'm very happy with it.

Both Eastman (Gibson models) and Shijie (strat and tele models) make beautiful guitars with excellent quality. China has centuries of craftsmanship tradition. There is an entire town in China where everybody in the town are guitar makers! Shijie makes the best S and T guitars I've ever played, and their classic models sell for under $1,000 new, about $800 used on reverb right now, but you rarely see them. I traded a Garrison 700 acoustic and an old Ibanez 120 for a brand new red Epiphone Casino made in China and it is awesome!! Everything from the body, the D neck hardware, P90 dog ear pick ups, and the paint and finish is just primo! Whatever they sealed the guitar with, the clear is as hard as rock! The first time I dinged it on my coffee table my heart sunk a wee bit..ya I am NOT a relic guy...sigh people are weird! But not a dent to be found! Let out a gasp of relief and proceeded to bang it around a bunch more times over the year and a half that I've had it, and it got so rediculous that I stopped even looking to see if it dented! My son has an Epiphone SG and I'm telling you, one band that I was in, my buddy had a Gibson SG which I used a LOT over about four years, and the Epiphone is in every way it's equal! I shyte you not! I was jonesing for a Casino since I found out how many awesome Beatle songs and large parts of albums were played on a Casino . McCartney bought one in 64 the other two lads loved it and they both bought one also. Lennon used it on Imagine and many more of his solo stuff, and I freaking love them! They are so versatile also. I have absolutely no problem saying my Casino is the very best guitar I've ever owned, and I will NEVER trade or sell it. Also, I am a converted Epiphone guy for life now! They are in every way as good, and BETTER in some ways than their papa company Gibson. I'm going for an Epiphone LP Pelham Blue next, then ...well see! Great video brother. Jack Canada

I've got a Sheraton II that I bought at Guitar Center. They had 2 available, one was a Chinese made one the other was a 99 Korean. I played both through the same Marshall Amp, the one I chose had a much richer tone, the electronics were good, no hum, a bit of buzz at the 12th fret. I even got the sales guy to play with me and switch guitars so we could compare them side by side. The Korean one was just a better guitar overall. I wanted the Chinese one because it came with a case and was natural finish but I chose the Korean one. There were SOME, not all guitars MIK that got Gibson pickups, I haven't taken the pickups out, I'm going to take it to my tech for a really good going over and set up and have him check out the wiring etc. Then I will find out.

I'm not sure how the ones form the 90's compare. But I had a late 80's Korean made Sheraton and it was definitely better made than a 2010 Chinese made a band mate had. Felt more solid, craftsmanship was clearly better and pickups were about the same sound. But of course, there is always guitars made on a Friday afternoon, which your white one seems to be. I regret selling the Korean one. Hard to find a better value for your money if you want a 335 type.

I agree with the Friday night scenario, haha! my Maple Chinese one from 2005 was perfect and the pickups were the "HOTCH" marked ones which sounded killer clean or with Van Halen ish chunk! Even with the '97 Korean Shortcomings I kept it and sold the Maple one and I still love it! it seems to have more soul to it, especially since it came from Maui and the wet, salty air ruined the hardware and the glue holding the pickup covers on. not soldered back then i guess.

I think I read somewhere that one of the reasons they moved manufacturing to China was because of this. They were having a lot of problems with consistency from the Korean factories. Funny how that is...I have a '96 Sheraton II from Samick/Korea. It was my choice after searching for new Sheratons from China. There was no question. As far as playability, tone, intonation...The Samick/Korean model was superior. I have never experienced squealing pickups on any Sheraton I have tried, chinese or Korean. I believe it is a matter of finding the right Sheraton II, as it is finding a Gibson Les Paul. They may look the same, but they are not all equal. Just as I've seen not-so-great Les Paul Standards not measure up to their reputation, the same holds true of any guitar...you can't paint them all with the same brush. I suspect if I was to compare my Korean Sheraton II with yours, the difference would be obvious...You possibly have a dud. IMHO

The bridge holes are NOT necessarily drilled incorrectly. It depends on the 'length of travel' available of the individual string adjuster. A 6th string requires a longer length than a first string. So, the mounting holes will depend upon the requirement of the particular bridge. I have a 1968 Gibson with a narrow ABR-1 bridge that requires the bridge holes be drilled offline in the same way in order to get perfect intonation.

it turns out I have exactly the same white Sheraton and made from Samick. I've been wanting to change the hardware for years and so far after two years of searching and not find the exact replacement Hardware. The dimensions are clearly different between this version and other versions. the pickups (covers and pole spacing) are also an narrower. You cannot find replacements direct and have to go all brand new. This is an extreme disappointment to me because this guitar has sentimental value. Thanks for posting this because I thought I was losing my mind thinking "who would do something that stupid". I will look at options about the bridge that you have described on your video
@renole2005
7 жыл бұрын
well, I guess it turns out that the bridge being drilled way off was unfortunate but a blessing at the same time so when i had to oblong the spacing for a new bridge i only had to do one side. if the old one was shiny i would have left it. the pole spacing on the tail piece is same as modern ones. if both bridge pole holes are going to be enlarged, it's about 1/8" per side for a standard bridge. and plenty of good glue to fill the slots, heheh... so far three rockin gigs with this white one and it sounds and plays flawlessly!

The bridge is SUPPOSED to be angled like that to be able to intonate the guitar. They're all like that. I also have a 97 Sheraton II. It's not "shoddy". It's intentional from the factory.
