Chloe Geraldes is a chiropractic intern, mental health advocate, and avid runner. Currently in her 9th quarter at the University of Western States (UWS) in Portland, Chloe is not only an intern providing chiropractic care under supervision but also a passionate advocate for holistic wellness. Her journey to chiropractic stems from her personal experiences as a competitive athlete and her deep interest in helping others heal, not just physically but mentally as well. Chloe's story is one of resilience and determination, as she has navigated her own mental health challenges while pursuing her dream of becoming a chiropractor. She’s here to share her insights on how chiropractic care, fitness, and mental health are all interconnected and essential for a balanced, healthy life.
In today’s discussion, Chloe will talk about her path to chiropractic, the importance of fitness in her own life, and how she incorporates mental health advocacy into her daily routine. She will offer her perspectives on how chiropractic care is not just about addressing physical pain but also contributes to overall wellness. We’ll explore the benefits of chiropractic care for athletes, including how it can prevent injuries and improve performance, and dive into her personal experience with running as a way to stay strong, both physically and mentally.
Growing up in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Chloe excelled in elite sports, particularly hockey and soccer. But after facing several sports-related injuries, including sprains and a broken collarbone, she became fascinated by how the body heals itself and how professionals like chiropractors can support that process. This early interest, combined with her own recovery journey, led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta before being granted early acceptance to UWS. Despite dealing with mental health struggles, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), Chloe did not let these challenges hold her back. She faced the anxiety and depression head-on, using a combination of therapy, fitness, and mindfulness practices to stay grounded and continue chasing her goals.
What makes Chloe's story truly inspiring is her ability to balance her mental health journey with the demands of her academic and professional career. Throughout university, the pressure of coursework often exacerbated her anxiety, but Chloe was determined to persevere. Rather than letting these struggles define her, she became a mental health advocate, joining the Canadian Mental Health Association and using her own experiences to help others. She now integrates mindfulness and self-care into her daily routine, using fitness as an outlet to manage stress, while also promoting mental health awareness for those who may feel isolated or overwhelmed.
In addition to her academic and professional pursuits, Chloe is also a dedicated runner, having completed her first half marathon shortly after stepping away from competitive sports. Running has become a cornerstone of her lifestyle, not only for its physical benefits but also for the mental clarity it provides. Chloe’s ability to incorporate fitness into her busy life as a chiropractic intern is a testament to her belief in the power of physical activity as a tool for mental well-being. She also has a one-year-old rescue dog named Baxter, who keeps her company and helps her stay active.
As she prepares to move to Kelowna, British Columbia for the next phase of her chiropractic internship, Chloe’s determination to help others live healthier, more balanced lives shines through. Despite the mental health challenges she’s faced, Chloe has proven that these struggles don’t have to hold you back from achieving your goals. She plans to open a multidisciplinary practice in the future, integrating chiropractic care with other therapies like acupuncture, massage therapy, and nutrition, providing holistic, whole-person care to her patients.
KEEP IT LONG TERM!
