An All-American dessert recipe hailing from St Louis. Yes, scratch from a bakery might be better, but what if I can't get to Saint Louis? Whip this one up in your own kitchen using a cake mix, butter, and some cream cheese.
Preheat oven to 350 F - 180 C
For the bottom layer:
1 pkg (15.25 ounces/432 g) dark chocolate or chocolate fudge cake mix
½ cup (113 g- 1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1/8 tsp salt
2 large eggs (100 g)
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the top layer:
1 (8 ounce/ 227 g) package cream cheese, softened
2 large eggs (100 g)
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 tablespoons (27 g) unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
4 cups (454 g/1#) powdered sugar, sifted
Bake to 30 to 40 min until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool and dust with powdered sugar.
