The base of the Pyramid of Cholula in Puebla, Mexico, covers 45 acres with a height of 210 feet, which makes it three times the size the Great Pyramid of Giza and is featured in the Guinness Book of Records! It also featured on Netflix's Ancient Apocalypse. It has several layers to it that are believed to go back to at least 650 BC. Further massive constructions were built and altered over the centuries, before it was partly covered with ash from a nearby volcano. Hernan Cortez arrived at Cholula in 1519 and a great massacre took place when the elders believed he was the return of Quetzalcoatl. German naturalist Alexander Von Humbolt in 1803 saw a large jade statue of Quetzalcoatl that was once upon it. In this video we explore the newly opened museum, featuring a stunning CGI reconstruction and discuss the Olmec influence and the true history of this remarkable structure. Includes exclusive aerial footage.
