As an attempt to save you from buying ANOTHER yoga mat that’s not right for you - here is my guide to picking a yoga mat.
What surface will you practice on? Timber or carpet?
How much padding do you like?
1/ Plastic mat, slightly ribbed, pretty cheap - comes with a coating on it from manufacture which can make it pretty slippery at first. You need to wash it before first use to get this off. Then they are pretty grippy!
2/ Eco Rubber Mat - made by Jade or Manduka great enviro option but will be ruined if left in sun or hot car!
3/ Printed Felt/fabric surface - Can be great for hot yoga or if you sweat a lot. The more you sweat the grippier they get. A non-sweaty student of mine said he loved the core workout because of how slippery it was. He had to hug in to stay upright! So maybe great for hyper mobile types!
4/ Reversible Lululemon Mat - at least you have a 2 for 1 chance that you will like it! For me a very non slip surface with suitable cushioning. There might be other brands but at least you can try it out before you buy! (Ps I’m not much of an online shopper!!)
