Thanks for the comparisons! I’ve got to say, I’d love to see this exact video with some iron gall or another calligraphy ink. I don’t use sumi often due to it not having great hairlines. My go to pre- made inks lately have been the Scribal Workshop iron gall and J. Herbin’s Encre Authentique. They’re both great, both iron gall. Downside of the JH is that it’s very much grey when it dries, and the downside to the Scribal ink is it smells like Worcestershire sauce… o_O

I really don’t get on with the Brause Steno. Everyone raves about it but I find it flexes too easily. The ink seems to bead too much on the page for me, and then “ink dumps” quite often. Nikko G is the nib I learnt pointed pen with and is my go to!

@mishaerementchouk

Try it. Nibs are actually quite tough and unless they very rusty or smashed up, they are worth trying. However, remember that the nibs are made to provide a well defined line, not the writing comfort. Keep your touch light and study the line.

ou don't need an oblique nib holder, and you don't need a dip pen, to learn or write excellent calligraphy. This can be done just as well with a fountain pen and a flex nib. It's usually easier, in fact, and a lot more pleasant because you'll almost certainly get a better nib.
@Johny566

Which fountain pen would you recommend?
@Stitchxavi
Жыл бұрын
Flex nibs on a fountain pen don’t get nearly the variance in line that a dip pen can get. Most of the videos that feature a fountain pen doing calligraphy have been modded. Check out Goulet Pens for more info on fountain pens.
@nisapl
8 ай бұрын
@@Stitchxavi Agree with this. On top of that, the price you need to spend on fountain pen nibs to get the same level of line variation you could get out of dip pen nib is really vast. The price entry point for flex nib with dip pen is so much lower it's ridiculous. I could get a Brause blue pumpkin steno, a nib holder, a bottle of sumi ink and calligraphy paper for less than €15. Fountain pen flex nib that works to the same degree would cost upwards €100.
@sinch4044
5 ай бұрын
bad/weird advice. to get a nib as flexible as a calligraphy nib, you either need to pay upwards of $300 or mod a pen with disposable calligraphy nibs. calligraphy nibs cost about $1.99. 😂
