Hi Silca. You recommend hot wax plus drip super secret after 100 miles on super long dusty and dry events. But it is also said that super secret lube needs to get dry before use. Is your recommendation to use the lube in order to cleanse the chain in order to get the full potential of the wax itsleft and not the lubricant on top of it?

@silca do you apply super secret lube to the top or the bottom as videos say different!

It will work either way, but we have determined that top is better and that is the method we are recommending on all of our new content and videos.

Paris Roubiax in the rain used to be a bit of Morgan Blue Aquapaste on the chain. That stuff stays like glue. Kogel recommend / sell it as an exterior bearing ‘grease’ to prevent water ingress to their press fit bearings. I use it on headsets, and a little on the outside of bearing seals

Oh man, that brings back some old school Paris-Roubaix memories, we did that with CSC and QuickStep back in the day!! Just remember, Aquapaste is not a very fast or effective lubricant, it's an incredibly tacky anti-corrosive that can block intrusion for low movement bearings like headsets, but you would definitely only want to use it over top of something else.

I gotta say I thought the gear wipes were a silly wates too but I bought some when they were on sale just to see. I then bought another container. They work SO well, great product. I need to get a Silca sales account for all the stuff I use on my bike, my team's bikes, the bikes I service, my race day bags, the tools....

Great timing. I am racing the Mohican 100k mtb race this weekend and was debating Super Secret vs Synergetic. I have 2 chains for my Trek Supercaliber. One lubed with Super Secret and one with Synergetic. With rain mid week, I expect a course that is mostly hero dirt, but with some water crossing and mud bogs on the horse trails. I am leaning towards the Synergetic lubed chain. But knowing that I could top off a Super Secret Chain with Synergetic is great info. I wasn't sure what I would do if if a Super Secret Chain needed re-lubed in race.

Super Secret is about 1 watt faster than Synergetic in dry conditions but this can quickly invert if things get wet enough. Secret Blend hot wax on the other hand is almost a watt faster than SuperSecret and can handle 100km of wet withouth too much fuss. If I were you I'd use SILCA hot wax, which should be able to go the whole 100km even in full wet conditions, and carry some Synergetic as a backup in case things get really nasty and you need to re-apply toward the end of the ride. Best of luck!

@@SILCAVelowhat cleaning method would you use afterwards to go back to wax post event as you’ll have to both melt off residual wax and decrease the residual oil.

I'm going to do 1300km in 7 days on paved roads. I plan on trying the super secret chain lube an just do a wipe down after every ride and reapply the lube. Am I planning it wrong :)?

This is a great strategy as long as it is mostly dry. If it were to be 7 days of rain, I'd use the Synergetic. The issue being that the SuperSecret will not dry properly overnight if it's applied to a wet chain, so you will see notably diminished performance after a few days of constant rain, whereas the Synergetic will actually displace the water and adhere to the chain beneath.

@@SILCAVelo Thank you the answer! well ill go find some expert who will be able to tell me what weather to expect :) jokes aside I love your products and you need to slow down with the new products... I might have to sell an organ or two just to keep up :P (Now that I think about it, that might have some marginal gains to it.... let me know in the podcast)

I ride a recumbent trike which has a 12’ 8speed chain. I only do road rides and currently training for multi day touring with camping. My current chain has 4000 miles on it and is at the 0.5% wear mark so looking at changing it before my big 545 mile ride next June….I’m considering doing a molten wax treatment to the new chain after removing the factory grease. Now the question I have is what lube should I use when out on long multi day tours where I don’t have access to my waxing setup to maintain my chain. Im planning a multi week trip down the pacific coast route with camping so need to find the best way to maintain my drive train on that long trip….any suggestions?

I have same question. What did you go with and how did it work out? I think Synergetic is best in this application. I heard wax lubes wear off in wet and need at least 8 hours set time after application. If its rain at night Im screwed and the chain could rust. I would hate to use wet lube but think its best for multi day camping trips

@@pgreenx i replaced my chain before the AIDS lifecycle ride during the first week of june....I waxed it using paraffin with 10%wt PTFE. I had no problems with the wax washing off as we had a rainy first day on the ride in San Francisco. I did put some Squirt drip wax lube on my chain on day 5 but the chain looked fine before treatment. After the ride I noticed that the Squirt attracted dirt and the chain felt sticky. Took it off and boiled off all the wax and dirt then rewaxed in my clean wax mix.

@@stevemullin1195 Thanks - Sounds like you were not camping on this trip. I am camping with no access to boiling a chain. I think Im going to use Synergetic wet for the trip and then switch to wax when home. thanks!

@@pgreenx I was camping each day of the 7 day ride….I made sure that the chain was freshly waxed before the ride….then just wiped it down every day after that days ride. Trike was stored with all the other 2100 bikes out in the elements so it got wet.

@@stevemullin1195 I dont know much about squirt but know its not a true "wax" lube. I was going to use Silca drip wax which requires application after a ride to prevent chain rusting and requires minimum 8 hr dry time to cure in dry conditions. Silca said to not use their products in a long term camping trip where rain is possible. I guess I have to look into Squirt now. Thanks
