One of the most passionate, mad, ardent and romantic playing of Chopin's Ballades. This was the last recital of Stanislav Neuhaus, and definitely one of the most marking and important performance of these masterpieces. I. Ballade No. 1, Op. 23, in G minor - 00:00 II. Ballade No. 2, Op.38, in F Major (A minor) - 08:40 III. Ballade No. 3, Op.47, in A-flat Major - 16:06 IV. Ballade No. 4, Op. 52, in F minor - 23:31

WOW is all I have to say about these performances. There is not a single unremarkable thing in these performances. I will have to listen to more of maestro Neuhaus' performances and recordings. There is nothing but awe to be had at this performance

His phrasing alone is already providing the legendary vibe of this possibly one of the best recording for Chopin ballades on earth. There is no fancy touching, change of "colors" or velocity contrast through out the pieces (which most modern players like those in chopin competition always do), but you can just hear how each phrase is delivered naturally and clearly. Just by making appropriate pauses and emphasis, it almost sounds like he is directly speaking to the audience, yet not through words, but music.

The pianist did an incredible job portraying the grandiose and expressive character of the four ballades in such unique interpretations. And it's not an overstatement to say those are the pinnacle of romantic music, great video!

holy crap i spent so much time trying to find which video i had open in another tab, or someone outside that was making noises distracting me from the music... theni realized it was sounds from recording in the actual vod....bird sounds etc. If its on purpose cool, but after a bit i felt like the random sounds werer messing with what i was listening too, which turned me off. anyone know if its intended(bird sounds etc for effect) or was it just recoding audio for a video, and sounds happned unexpectantly?
