"Perfect" is not human... Your interpretation was human and touching (man, you won the Mazurka Prize!!!). And Chopin himself said that with his compositions he “just” tried to express the soul and heart of a man... He was successful, of course, just like you, Josh. I enjoyed your video very much!

I appreciate how you go over how we can approach this piece and how to interpret this with certain pedal patterns and voicing. If you can, would you consider making a short video over Chopin Nocturne 12 op37 no. 2? I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you would play the etude-like A section and the hymn-like B section. Great video!

I've been waiting for these I knew you'd make them eventually. I learnt a lot from your performances at the National Chopin and I was the one who uploaded them as I wanted to share them with a wider audience! Your music making means a lot to me don't ever stop!

I do not play the Piano professionally, given that I am over-occupied by my career, but I wanted to know whether it would be a bad idea if I learned music pieces and practiced the techniques on the way. It has been 6 months since I started taking piano lessons and on top of my classes I learned a few pieces on my own, and I can play them nicely, but my instructor disapproves. Do you think I shouldn’t learn pieces on my own? Please let me know what you think, I seldom get the chance to take advice from the most authentic individuals who are among the best.

Actually, Josh, that little hesitation was appropriate musically, even though it seemed unintentional as I watched. As usual, Chopin uses modulations in sequences in most of his compositions, but this mazurka, especially, takes it to the max. I happen to be teaching this mazurka to a gifted student and I will have her watch this video as the beginning sets the mood so brilliantly. I have her inhale in the beginning as well! The confusing thing, I think, about mazurkas for us pianists who are not Polish is that when listening to many Polish pianists play them, there's such a wide range of different interpretations as well as rubato. Maybe using the mazurka emphases when called for either in the second or third beats, it's okay to just make it personal and authentically your own. As I've watched people dance from different regions, it may be just as important to bring out the cantabile as much as the rhythms as these are mainly impressions of Chopin's creations. You captured that beautifully in the Competition and the Polish judges noticed. Thank you for another great tutorial!

As Chopin I was born in Warsaw and of course you do not have to have Polish blood to play Mazukas well 🙂 You've just proved that, thank you! 👋 Bless you and keep your channel still going!

Nothing inspires us more than seeing our piano teacher perform. The same piece always sounds differently when YOU play. I’m starting to learn the magic from your tutorials 🫶🏻
