Johnny, your teaching is top-notch. Thank you for your lessons. A lot of theorists stick to the beginner or intermediate stuff, but you are one of the few that delves into the meaty stuff, yet do it in a way that appears to be beginner. The mark of a master.

I've never seen anyone explain this as thorough yet in an easy to understand way. The double keyboard graphic puts it over the top. Jonny, simply brilliant!!!

I'm a guitarist first with only a passing interest in piano. But your lessons are so straightforward and clear, I still prefer them for learning and experimenting with theory. Keep up the good work :>

Love how the jargons of music theory are unravelled step by step with each melodious sounding chords. I finally understand and appreciate what chord voicings are with one simple sentence reinforced with examples. Thank you.

THE best lesson. Why? - Because anyone can understand and anyone can play these unexpectedly wonderful "colors" sounding like a pro, - sounding years beyond your basic chord progressions. All you have to do is watch.. perhaps a couple of times over until it all clicks in, - but at 16 minutes per view it is super easy to digest and so worth your time. Then say: "Thank you". As the people listening to your performance certainly will !!

so use the 9 and/or 13 if the third of the base chord is major, and use the 9 and/or 11 if it's minor?
@shehannanayakkara4162

Outside the scope of this video but #11 extensions (note the sharp) work well on major chords, the reason why 11 chords don't work well on major chords is that you have the clash between the 3 and the 11 (which is just 4) which are a semitone apart. If you sharpen the 11 to #11 you solve that problem and get a cool chord.

I don't know if it's on purpose or not, but your screen said "further from the 'turth'" instead of "truth". Made me chuckle. Great tutorial as it always is with Jonny!

The idea of categorising voicings of a specif types of chord by which note is on top of the chord, is very useful for me. I have long sought a way of categorising extended voicings, beyond the obvious forms. It seems a good way forward to have one vocing for every top note (3rd, fifth, root) in your muscle memory.

Its almost embarrassing I didn't figure this out myself. Also, I see you're mashing two notes at once with your thumb. Finally I get to do on purpose what I've been doing accidently for 40 years.

Funny how in the beginning I'm literally opposite. I'm the opposite of pro. Opposite of knowing what I do. Able to produce amazing chords just by hearing it. (subjective? perhaps.) Not being able to do anything else with it.

These chords don’t sound that good. But then again I didn’t make that face while I was playing..😂
