Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords of Deftones.
Deftones originally formed in 1988 and exploded on the scene by the mid-1990s. By the dawn of the 21st-century, they were one of the biggest bands around - from mega-concert tours and a strong presence on MTV to the release of additional well-received albums in the years that have followed.
Carpenter's musical habits include plenty of dark detuned textures, intense riffing/thrashing, and a strong aggressive side, which is a contrast to their atmospheric moods, mellow drones, and quieter moments. They're definitely a great band to notice and follow, as guitarist Stephen Carpenter (along with vocalist Chino Moreno) on guitar provides plenty of new ideas to sample, learn from, and sonically explore.
This lesson focuses on a variety of music from their early days, with chord-based moments appearing on the albums 'Around The Fur' and 'White Pony.' These examples include parts from songs such as 'My Own Summer,' 'Be Quiet And Drive,' 'Passenger,' 'Change (In The House Of Flies), and more.
Deftones are a unique and unusual band, as their shifts in different directions are noticeable, but they've always retained their signature style and overall sound, which has always sounded original, fresh, and inspiring at the same time.
