your videos have been so tremendously helpful to me in my guitar playing journey, i found your channel about a year ago and have watched countless of your videos since then. i can separate my guitar learning into two phases, before and after late night lessons. you explain complex music theory so clearly in a way that resonates with me so profoundly, and i'm able to apply it in real time and actually incorporate into my playing down the line. thank you so much for sharing your encyclopedic knowledge here for free, i and countless others are so grateful for all the hard work you've done. thank you !

Contrary to most rock bands, Peter's bass sound is heavily modified with many effects. That is big part of their sound.

Love You to Death, the absolute greatest heavy gothic metal ballad of all time. “ her hips move and I can feel what she’s saying “ yeah Peter me too I am also a hip man and a ass man , legs , thighs ,chest , and sometimes with the most special one mind, body, and soul. Love me some Type O Negative, we could sure use Pete nowadays they would try to cancel him of course and he would turn it around on them in the most clever way. I believe Peter was a genius songcrafter , how he built all those songs, wrote the most clever lyrics. I’ve started saying you can listen to Type O from the ultra serious that’s so goth perspective and then go back and listen to it and appreciate the tongue in cheek and self deprecating perspective, I think was what he was barely trying to hide under the dark atmosphere. Brilliant band and a once in a lifetime person and voice. Bloody Kisses is a masterpiece, October Rust has grown on me, I don’t think they put out a bad album it took them a couple to find their sound and then boom Bloody Kisses drops and changes everything, they also aren’t credited with being one of the first bands to play in that low of a tuning. Everyone thinks of Korn but when I think of 90s down tuned music it starts with TON. Thanks for covering one of my favorite bands and this is the best time of year to dig into them.

Hi Dave, did you have to change anything on your guitar to accommodate the heavy strings and low tuning, ie action ?
@LateNightLessons
2 күн бұрын
Hey! I actually left everything the same after I changed them. I've done this a few times before, and the PRS seems able to do it, but it was a little off (with a tuner). I left the intonation/action the same and didn't adjust anything, mainly because it's pretty close when I'm using my regular gauge strings, and didn't want to change anything there, so I just beefed up and had to tinker with the tuning a little between each song as I filmed this one. I don't normally play tuned this low, but if you were stay that low for a while, I'd highly recommend setting your guitar up for it. It was tricky playing in tune during this lesson, but I think it passed the test, at least to demonstrate some of these riffs and stuff. BTW - right after I finished filming this one, I tuned the PRS back to normal. : ) Thanks and ROCK ON!

Depending on the guitar you will need to file the nut to accomodate the heavier gauge strings and if you have good enough ears to notice tuning then you may have to intonate the guitar. It is better to have a hard tail guitar set up just for lower tunings. I have a mahogany body and neck Godin LG that only needed a little intonation. Went from .011-.49 standard E tuning to .012-.53 Standard C. Good Luck!

You could also use a Digitech Drop pedal or a Helix to lower the tuning digitally.

Hey David, Thanks again for yet another great lesson, and for me, an introduction & education into a band I knew very little about. Of late, I have been listening to an album by Allen Lande - “The Great Divide”. I love the energy, the composition, and just how “epic” sounding it is. The song “Reaching for the stars” is my fav. The lead guitarist is Magnus Karlsson. I took a quick look at Wikipedia… he’s certainly got some solid credentials. Have you done any previous deep dives into this band, or Magnus K before? cheers Ewan

I've never tuned down that far. Drop D, yes but B? That's scary....cool. ..
@brandonjackson5865
Күн бұрын
We used to buy 7 string sets and loose the high end string and turned B to B then we could drop the B down to A and cover Korn a half step up on our 6 string, so we could cover TON, Korn, and Slipknot on the same guitars and our main guitars stayed in E standard for thrash. B standard is an awesome guitar tuning Alvarez has some very cool baritone acoustics that aren’t too expensive and B on a baritone acoustic can nearly be orgasmic . If you got more than one guitar you should at least give it a try.

Meh...the schlocky, vampire goth era sucks. The first 2 albums were much better. There were tons of bsnds tuning to B in the late '80's , early '90's.
