1996 Track World Championships at Manchester. Individual Pursuit Final: Chris Boardman vs Andrea Collinelli. Commentary by David Duffield and Russell Williams.
Barnstorming, jaw-dropping performance from Chris Boardman. Collinelli had an astounding first km, but faded under the solar brilliance of Boardman, a combination of relentless training, nutrition, careful pacing, and equipment. A detailed binding of all the essential elements. This is where modern cycling began. It's lovely to hear of Graeme Obree, and the influence he had on position.

Its where modern cycling for Brits began. The Aussies had been doing it for 12 years before this.

Amazing. Boardman and co really did lay the foundation for the Olympic success in the track. What a genius.

@@skyjuiceification As Boardman has acknowledged. Boardman and his team were inclined to do established thinking better. Obree challenged everyone to think beyond that. Boardman and British Cycling then adopted Obree's model - on the track. On the road, British Cycling remained in a dead end for a few more years despite Nicole Cooke's efforts or, even, to spite her

GRAZIE FILIPPO 🚲✈🏁 ❤

at 5:33 you see that Collinell is leaving the aggresive position and grabbing the bars shorter. Whilst the incredible Boardman was disciplinned. And that is how he has won this awesome race.

As someone who’s new to cycling I can’t help but notice how similar those old bikes look to the Ventum & Cadex Tri bikes. I really wish someone would compare one of the old ones to the modern ones

There's an interesting video of Graham Obree in a wind tunnel on his old bike with the under-chest handlebar position vs a newer bike. It shows how good an athlete and engineer he was kzitem.info/news/bejne/0IBvrmR_h4xjkqg

Dont know why the UCI banned the riding position. Surely the point is to ride the bike as fast as possible which meant superman position. Its not like people were crashing or anything from it.

I was heavily involved in the technical side of cycling in the mid-90s and I can tell you that it was very frustrating at times. You never knew which innovations would be allowed and which wouldn't. And, if they were allowed, you never knew how long it would be before they would be banned.

On the flip side, if there were no regulation we’d all be watching bubbles go around the track because the riders all adopted fully faired recumbents
