These are the types of things more board game reviews should be doing. Most people don’t want to buy every game. Comparisons are so undervalued to make decisions about what to get.

I appreciate the feedback! I know some people don't want us to focus too much during a main review by comparing the game to others since they may not have played that other one. I thought it might be nice to have a little side series focusing on comparisons. Glad you enjoy it.

Just watched this after it has been up for a few weeks. Yes, as others have said- more of this comparison content! Really appreciate it! Please do a video (with or without others) comparing narrative adventures like Sleeping Gods, Lands of Galzyr, ISS Vanguard, etc type games. They are a huge commitment and we the people would benefit from more comparative reviews before selecting something so long and expensive!

I love the Uprising solo version. It plays a lot more like real opponents. I even tried 4-player solo by adding one more opponent and it went great!

First off, thanks for posting a video discussing DTA vs Tales to Amaze. I enjoy content on games I enjoy and am interested in. Wanted to add some FYI's for those thinking about DTA. 1. DTA offers three games in one. It has the standard campaign mode, it has a Boss vs Boss battle mode, and it also has a straight Boss vs player battle mode (perhaps the one you refer to). Don't know of the other games offer that variety or not. In addition, there is a homebrew variant called a "minion rush" where you just see how may minions you can kill sequentially. It should also be pointed out that you can just one-off the first portal crawl to play co-op with friends. So you don't have to do the campaign....similar to your bit about just doing a boss battle. 2. DTA has a real learning as you move through the campaign. The difficulty ramps up the challenge as you proceed, and allows you to upgrade your heroes after each session. So there's an RPG/character advancement aspect to it. Since the other games don't offer a campaign mode, I am assuming the don't have anything analogous. 3. DTA also offers legacy content. If you beat the campaign, you can run it again at higher level of difficulty and be rewarded with opening "legacy packs" that make changes to the game. 4. DTA can be played with 1-4 characters. However, the game is arguably harder with more players, the balance is off. And I agree with your comment that the game starts to bog down at 3-4 players. But I did the Veteran mode with 2 children and 2 adults and we only lost twice over 8 campaigns. So it's doable with 4. 5. Like Tales, DTA can be played with any of the Dice Throne characters, even the Marvel and X-men, Santa, Krampus, and Deadpool. That's a LOT of replayability and variability. However, I agree with a previous comment that not all characters are equally effective, especially running solo. But the lemonade is that this offers more challenge as you get better at the game. 6. You can actually swap out characters after each scenario. You simply transfer the loot cards. That's all it takes. 7. The game offers a lot of randomness in what you fight and in the dungeon layout. However, I don't know that the layout variability makes the game feel any different. And, there are far fewer high level minions to fight, so you'll end up fighting the same bosses and the same level IV minions a lot. 8. Tactical movement is not really a thing in DTA where it does seem to matter in Tales and Wildlands. 9. Finally in multiplayer mode, this game requires a LOT of cooperation and working together.

Nice video. Curious to hear your take on which Dune you prefer for 2p. I’m not crazy about managing bots in games, so I like the idea of a lower upkeep bot in the original Dune. However, I’m curious if the extra upkeep in the new version makes for a more rewarding experience at 2p.

An interesting one would be the three fantasy flight LCGs, or Marvel Champions v. Sentinels of Multiverse or Marvel United. Perhaps the CMON coops (Zombicide, Massive Darkness, Cthulhu)?

Hi Chris. How well does Unmatched play using the Marvel characters (5 sets, but that’s all I have)? Do you recommend getting Cobble & Fog to supplement the choice of characters? I’ll also be interested in what you’ll think of Marvel Missions once it comes out. Lookin forward to that video 😊.

Plays great! I haven't played with all of them, but I did try GhostRider vs the Martian Invader and he's almost too good in a solo match since he can move around so easily and take outthe little aliens. I could see putting out a second sidekick villain if I play with Ghost Rider again.

Personally, DTA is a better game than Tales to Amaze. DTA takes longer to play due to its campaign nature but it has a good save system that helps get you started quickly. There are also plenty of module dungeons and encounters to be had. Tales to Amaze gets a little repetitive due to the lack of Villains and maps available. Player choices also feel limited (move, attack or defend). It’s still a good game but it feels like your doing less during your turn. When it comes to heroes, it’s a tie between DTA and Tales to Amaze. Each offers a variety of different-feeling characters to play as which changes things up. Both are worth having in your collection but depending on the type of board gamer you are, you may side with one more than the other. I was I interested in playing both and although I like them both and I’m glad they’re in my collection, DTA is my game of choice. Great video!

Wildlands is the best of the 3 games, and the solo/cooperative addition is great. Wildlands normal is best with 3-4 players. Cooperative is better 1-2. Dice Throne is best head-to-head. We ran through DTA once, and didn't have a lot of interest in revisiting the adventure mode. Unmatched sits between the two games for me. It's a simpler system than Wildlands that plays best competitively at 2-players. At 3-4 players is where the cooperative mode is better than Wildlands.

Playing a single character through all eight levels of DT can be a little dull. I prefer to change my character every 2 levels. I’m looking forward to DT Missions as I think that will be the better co-op experience.

I really like Dice Throne but disliked Adventures. I found it such a grindy borefest. And it's so unbalanced. With some characters it's a walk in the park while with others it's nearly impossible. Haven't played Unmatched: Tales to Amaze yet but hoping it's (way) more fun than DtA.

As I mentioned, I mostly play against the bosses in DTAdventures with my kiddo. That's the most fun part because it doesn't feel grindy. From the sou ds of it, I think you'll enjoy the Unmatched one more!
