I am a 44 year old german guy and i saw him live in berlin over 20 years ago and his music became one of my best friends in my life. No words to express what this music does to me. He had so much passion in his unique playing. It warms my heart that other people feel the same. Prayers to Chris thanks for your gifts ❤🙏

Hi, German Guy - Katie here. I created this channel, as well as a Facebook group (facebook.com/groups/allthingschriswhitley), a blog (allthingschriswhitley.com/ ), and a Chris Whitley collection of bootlegs on the Live Music Archive (archive.org/details/ChrisWhitley?sort=-date). If you attended a gig in Berlin, I'm guessing it was at Quasimodo's; you'll find recordings of his shows there on the archive.org link. You're not the only one who feels that there is something religious about the experience of listening to his music: allthingschriswhitley.com/2013/06/27/on-being-baptized-in-the-church-of-chris-whitley/

I went to high school with Chris, he was the coolest, most down-to-earth Guy in school. I remember him bringing a fiberglass electric-resophonic guitar, that blew our minds!

It would have been an honor beyond measure just to have met the man. I bought "Living With The Law" for almost nothing in Athens Ga. some time in the mid nineties. The first time I played it I mostly sat transfixed with my jaw on the floor for 40 some odd minutes. It was almost like a religious experience. I have still never heard it's equal. I checked every record store I visited over for the next year ago. Nobody seemed to know anything about him. If they did they only knew about that first album. One of the first things I ever typed into a search bar was Chris Whitley. I found "Din of Ecstasy" and "War Crime Blues". I ordered both. The very next search broke my heart. Chris had passed away a year or so earlier. If I ever found a bottle with a genie inside, you can bet one of my wishes would be to see Chris live. In my opinion he is the most overlooked music of the 20th and 21st centuries. R.I.P. Chris. Thanks so much for making the soundtrack of my life.

One of the most amazing, transformative and talented musicians who ever lived. So very glad I got to see him live in San Antonio, TX.

According to our tour guide, the only time Chris played San Antonio was late November 1996 at Sneaker's. We don't have a bootleg of that show, but here's one from that month with what is probably a similar setlist: archive.org/details/cw1996-11-16 The Power Down from that set is pretty good! - a preview of Terra Incognita.

I miss Chris and his music. Wish the world would embrace, raw, natural talent like his, instead of the puke they shove into the ears of the masses. I was so lucky to have known him. He is missed.

I always think of it as some of us caught the whispers in the wind about this man and we were the lucky ones. Maybe, some day, the rest of the world will catch up. But until then, we hold onto one the greatest secrets whispered through the wind.

inly got to see him live once, back when i think he was touring "Living With The Law" still and he was opening for Tom Petty. at the time i only knew "big Sky Country" and i liked it but i had not heard anything else by him, it is the only time in my entire life that i went out and bought an album based solely on seeing someone play live. .

I chatted with him for a few minutes in 2000 or 2001 when he played a small tour in support of what must've been the Perfect Day Tour in Salt Lake City. I remember him being pretty shy and frail. Great show, though, and his playing was anything but reserved.

Saw Chris in Madison WI in like 91-92 playing a small theatre. He was touring with his band and opener Toad the Wet Sprocket. Sadly most the audience was there to see Toad as they had a string of radio hits. The crowd had almost zero ability to digest what Chris was laying down, quite a bummer they couldn't recognize true talent over radio drivel. Great show though and glad I saw him on the living with the law tour.
