Christiaan Huygens - Biography, Works and Contributions to Science
Christiaan Huygens was a Dutch astronomer, physicist, mathematician and inventor. He explained the nature of Saturn's rings, was the discoverer of Titan, invented the modern pendulum clock, explained the wave nature of light, perfected the telescope, made important contributions in probability theory, and established the laws of collision between elastic bodies. . He was a member of the Royal Society.
The first appearance of a reference to the magic lantern is made by Christiaan Huygens in a 1659 manuscript. In this manuscript, Huygens makes a design for this artifact. Plate design is also featured for creating projections by overlaying images.
Although this Huygens text is the first time that a magic lantern is mentioned, there are indications that magic lanterns already existed before this date.
