This is great Pat! A very informative and well rounded presentation. I really apreciate your unbiased view of this topic, as a christian scientist myself I see so much misrepresentation of the movement, so this really nice to see!

Correction : readers are not leaders. The only leader is Mary Baker Eddy.

Hi, thanks so much for watching. I've done a couple of videos on CS and don't remember exactly what is said in each one. I realize that MBE is the only leader, the pastor. I think I made it clear at least in one of these videos that there is no pastor and no sermon except the readings from the Bible and Science and Health. I meant leader in the sense of being the people at the two podiums guiding the congregation through the various sections of the service and doing the readings. Not teaching or doing commentary in any way. If that wasn't clear, I apologize. Thanks for the correction.

Thanks for watching. This is a old saying. I would ask, Have you every known any CSs personally? Have you read Science and Health? Are you familiar with other metaphysical approaches to religion? Although I am not a member of a CS church, after having answered all of these questions with a 'yes' , I find MBEddy has a lot of good in her approach and the people of the CS church that I have come across live the Christian lifestyle as well (or better) than most other Christians I've met.

I was raised in the CS movement, went to the Principia (CS) school and am now a christian. This movement is a fraud. It is non-christian. She plagiarized much her material. It is in direct oposition to the Bible. Who are you???

Thanks for watching. I am a presenter who studies many different religions and spiritual movements sharing their history and basic beliefs. They come from multiple points of view about spirituality and I am not trying to convert people to any specific one. This is a channel about information. It is not a CS channel but they receive attention as one of the most interesting of the Christian spiritual movements. As you peruse my playlists you will see that I could not possibly expect a viewer to personally agree with all of these diverse approaches. I disagree with you that this is non-christian or opposes the Bible. It is one of the many, many ways of interpreting the text. I hope you will check out some of the videos about other groups as well.

One of the ways people used to explain Christian Science in the early 1900's was that Christian Science was like Grape -Nuts, it's neither Christian nor science. Grape-Nuts, invented by CW Post in 1897, was a combination of wheat and barley. Christians thought it a fitting comparison. What I find interesting here is the complete irony of this. From the time Eddy came on the religious scene, one of her desires was to be accepted by the religious community. The Christian community, however, was aware just as it is today, that CS theology is far different from true Christianity. Mary Baker Eddy named her newly discovered religion Christian Science. You would think that with a name like this that it would be a Christian based religion. The name is just one of her disceptions. Christian doctrine is pretty basic. We are all sinners, in need of a savior. Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life Romans 10:9-10 If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from death, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved. Jesus came to earth to take our sin that we may have eternal life. Repent and believe, pretty basic stuff. This message is repeated over and over in the Bible. So what does CS have to say about this? It denies it. Sin exists only as long as we allow the belief in our thinking. And Jesus, his only purpose was to show us how to overcome sin, disease and death. He was the way shower, as Eddy called Him. The healing aspect of CS The first thing everyone learns about CS is that you can be healed from a variety of illnesses using the principles of CS. As an ex cser, I can personally attest to this . CS works. As Eddy said, let me be known by my fruits. But this is not the whole story. The truth is that CS heals because God heals. Any cser will readily admit this, then return to how they were healed through CS. It's what brings many to CS. The Bible warns us : Matthew 24:24 “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” CS hopes to hook you b4 you realize that there is nothing Christian about CS. It is a pagan religion, more gnostic in belief than the Christian religion it tries to identify with. Eddy wove a web of deceit that any Christian would instantly recognize, yet those not clearly versed in Christianity could be easily convinced of it's validity. The best defense against these cults, and make no mistake, CS is a cult, is to know what it means to be a Christian. And this, in a nutshell, is the crux of the matter. When this finally sunk in, I was done with CS. For me it took a literal reading of the Bible without the lense of CS. It was a path that took me 5 years to overcome. The lies, the deceit, the cult. One thing I want to make clear is that not everything in CS is deceptive. CS does (loosely) follow the Bible and is good in that regard. I learned all the major Bible stories growing up, for which I am grateful. I learned to trust and talk to God as a cser. I now know that I was way off base when it came to knowing Jesus, but I believe God knew my circumstances, and has forgiven me.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts about the CS movement. I've discovered in my studies of the various Christian denominations that there are almost as many ways to interpret the Bible among them as there are individual groups. That is one thing about the study of religion that makes it so interesting.

@@Scott48-m7e I totally agree with this verse. But it doesn't even imply "the belief of sin". This is something MBE came up with, and it's not biblical. Rom 3:10, 3:23
