School of Sustainability students, diverse in their backgrounds and interests, work with faculty and researchers toward a common goal: to foster innovative research, impactful education and engaged communities to achieve environmental integrity, social equity and well-being. Sustainability integrates social, economic and environmental dimensions to develop enduring and equitable solutions to global challenges.
Learning tracks within the school include energy and technology, international development, ecosystems management, urban dynamics, food systems, policy and governance, and sustainability leadership. Our curriculum is grounded in experiential learning and practical faculty-led research, equipping graduates of the School of Sustainability with the skills and tools to make positive impacts in a rapidly changing world

Christopher Boone is Professor in the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University. His research contributes to ongoing debates in sustainable urbanization, environmental justice, vulnerability, global environmental change, and innovation in higher education. He is the Founding Dean of the College of Global Futures and prior to that role, served as the Dean of the School of Sustainability. Boone is on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Global Council for Science and the Environment. For the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, he serves on the Executive Committee. He is the co-founder and co-chair for the National Sustainability Society. Boone is on the editorial and advisory boards of several journals, including Cell Reports Sustainability, Elementa, and Environmental Justice. At ASU, he has taught classes on sustainable urbanization, urban and environmental health, principles and methods of sustainability, environmental justice, interdisciplinary methods for socio-ecological research, urbanization, biodiversity, and innovation, sustainable design (Innovation Space), and designing the future university (Humanities Lab). Dr. Boone earned his Ph.D. in geography (1994) from the University of Toronto and was a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Environment at McGill University.
