Also, you could just argue directly that he isn't claiming antitheism is a philosophy that is meant to comfort people in any sense or offer a sense of advancement, because that's humanism, not antitheism, in the same way that atheism isn't postulating it has the answers to everything or some way to make the world better, that's humanism, again.

First and foremost Hitchens was a genuine humanist, a caring individual fighting for realism, the plain, the objective. And they pointed fingers at him... If one can’t equal Hitchens intellectually, at least own the absolute minimum required of all of us, which is - consider him a fellow human being whose point of view happens to differ. She was wanting to get a divorce and she went to this preacher, and you know what he told her? You are supposed to take it and like it. Well she got a divorce and they threw out of that church. They might say well most Christian Fundamentalists are not like that. But because growing up with it exposed me to hundreds of kids who’s condition is far far worse. These amazing kids through no fault of their own are completely debilitated and will never know the kind of freedom that even someone that I can achieve with my minor symptoms. No you are not. Thinking about yourself, questioning your own life, those are things that take courage and an ability to accept things about yourself you might not like. Doing those things in the first place, having the courage to do them, means you are strong-minded. By continuing to do those things you will only become stronger of mind, never weaker.

@@tjones5719 I've seen that whole discussion, my friend. But the point of my comment was based on the other side's own words, not Hitchens. I didn't make an argument either way to be deemed a strawman statement so I'm not sure what your point is.

Ryan Riddick “I’ve seen the whole discussion” great, doesn’t mean you listened. The evidence is still that you didn’t. “...the point of my comment was based on the other side’s own words, not Hitchens” by stating it this way, you commit a strawman acting like I said something against this, I didn’t. You don’t listen really well nor do you seem to read well it appears. “I didn’t make an argument either way to be a strawman statement” it seems you don’t understand strawman arguments. A strawman is where you present a position of the other party which is not factual and then attack it. Like you did previously in this last post of yours. You said “the other side arguing his point for him...” that is you stating a position that the other side took which agreed with Hitchens, but there was not something they said that inherently agreed with Hitchens. That by definition is a strawman. Now at least you learned something. “I’m not sure what your point is” well I assumed you could read for comprehension and had an education to know what a strawman was or to at least be able to google it, I guess I gave you too much credit.
@YourRealDaddy

@@tjones5719 your attempt at appearing to be an intellectual is pretty weak. Out of that entire novel you typed, you said nothing. But you did make it clear that it is you that does not understand when to use the strawman argument as you have shown in both of your comments. It's as if you've just learned the definition and jumped at the chance to use it no matter the context. For the SECOND time, I made no argument. It was an observation. An observation is when you see and/or hear something first-hand, then report what you experienced to others. And what I saw and heard was a religious man make a claim that religion attracts those that are weak and vulnerable - which is what Hitchens has always said but didn't need to in this clip. Hardly a strawman argument. Hopefully that helps you in the future when you project your own shortcomings upon others as if they're not your own. Good luck.
@tjones5719

Ryan Riddick lets see if you did any better - your last attempt was filled with logical fallacies and demonstrated a lack of education. “your attempt at appearing to be an intellectual is pretty weak.” Two problems with this. First I don’t make an issue out of my intellect so when others bring this up, it is typically consistent with psychologically diagnosed insecurity. Second you provide no evidence. “Out of that entire novel you typed, you said nothing.” Again no evidence of this by you. Instead there is counter evidence because I properly identified your strawman, I properly described what a strawman is, and easily refuted your prior post. “But you did make it clear that it is you that does not understand when to use the strawman argument as you have shown in both of your comments. It's as if you've just learned the definition and jumped at the chance to use it no matter the context.” Again no evidence just accusation by you. You do realize this demonstrates that your claim I said nothing in my post is actually a projection of your own flaw. You see you provided no evidence and no support to this point, you simply complained. “For the SECOND time, I made no argument. It was an observation. An observation is when you see and/or hear something first-hand, then report what you experienced to others. And what I saw and heard was a religious man make a claim that religion attracts those that are weak and vulnerable - which is what Hitchens has always said but didn't need to in this clip. Hardly a strawman argument.” Except the person did not say what you just claimed. His most relevant comment was that Christianity has something to say for the poor and weak and unintelligent. So first you are claiming he said something he didn’t - that’s an argument and a claim. Second your claim was inaccurate because you don’t listen. Third you attack and mock that made up position saying it is what Hitchens argues. That is a strawman - a textbook example or close to it. “Hopefully that helps you in the future when you project your own shortcomings upon others as if they're not your own.” Interesting that you project your flaw of projecting. Now I wouldn’t be as cruel to say you said nothing, that’s your anger and likely triggered emotion talking, but you had no evidence, you didn’t refute what I said, actually you completely avoided what I said (including the additional strawman you made of my position). So you are the only one that has evidence against you showing you project. “Good luck.” I doubt you mean this based on your triggered responses.

Actually, the intro is touching, not to be scoffed at too soon. Some people aren't capable obviously of more advanced, connected thinking, and our gentleman at the podium admits this... which is closer to truth and love than he may know... and Hitch compliments him. Then of course, gently and thoroughly addresses this.
