Anyone seen the clip where he corrects Peter Jackson on how his character (Saruman) should die in the third film? (It was an extended scene not in the theatrical cut) He goes into some detail about the exact rasping sound/expression one would have if one were to be stabbed through the heart/lungs from behind/above with a dagger. What’s disturbing about it is he seemed to have first hand knowledge of the subject (Peter Jackson was a little rattled but he ultimately let Lee direct the scene as “realistically” as possible. In the same clip he mentions some other potentially creepy things like owning “a handful” of antique books about the devil/demons, with a warning that anyone who studies such material will either go insane or lose their soul in the process. Again he seems to speak with an authority that suggests he’s actually acquainted with the occult, etc. A very interesting man whose bad side I would never want to be on...

Funny you should talk about his silence. Nicholas Meyer, who directed Star Trek II and Star Trek VI had told Ricardo Montalban, while filming II, that the thing that makes a good villain scary is that he doesn't even have to raise his voice. Montalban had gone over his lines for his introduction to the movie, and he was shouting every word. So, Meyer had suggested to Montalban to say the lines quietly. When he was told that, Montalban took that and ran with it, thus making Khan one of the best villains in all of movie history

Indeed. Lee liked to embellish his actorly anecdotes over the decades. awesome trivia with the ring, the one carradine wore in the two House Of movies and then Bela wore it in the Abbott and Costello crossover. I heard theories that the ring was originally the one in The Mummy & Son of Dracula, and they just put a different crest on it, because in those days they would recycle a prop after a picture, instead of selling it at an auction, so a lot of those old props from old movies don't exist anymore as they were re-purposed into something else.

Although "Dracula has risen from the grave" was the first of Lee's films I saw as a kid, it turned out later that my favorite ones of his be "Taste the blood of Dracula" (although the scenes where Lee has lines are indeed the lows of the film, and I understand why now, because his acting in the finale of the film he unleashes his real power without saying a word). I am also quite fond of Jess Francos adaption with him, "Count Dracula", where Lee finally got to play the Dracula he wanted to play (true to the novel). I love Christopher Lee's films, with "Horror Express" (also with Cushing) is my very favorite. My favorite Dracula adaption overall is Dan Curtis' take with Jack Palance as the count. Why? Because it was the first movie that brought out the suffering of Dracula, and the reincarnation of his lost love. Palance is great as the count and during the film you get feelings for the characters and you understand his suffering. This was later adapted from this film (without credit to Curtis) to the Coppola film.

This reminds me of a scene from Houses of Usher: Vincent Price had to say a stupid sentence like The House is the Monster, and he went to Roger Corman and said this sentence made no sense. Then Corman said: Because of this sentence, we can do the movie (the producers wanted to have a monster, and Corman convinced them that the house is the monster to save costs and get his vision of the movie done). So, Price looked at Corman and said: Then I will fill this sentence with life... That is a way you can deal with stupid sentences :-)

I've never understood why filmmakers can't use Stoker's lines either or make a true adaption of Stoker's novel.
@DarthRushy

The reason is quite simple - they don't like it. It was made iconic by the Transylvanian chapters, but very few take an interest in the larger London side of things.

If I'm not mistaken, I do believe that Sir Christopher Lee came from a noble family himself, in addition to having served as an intelligence officer during WW2. At any rate he is surely missed,and nice job having given credit to both Bram Stoker and Bela Lugosi.

Something fairly interesting is how little Transylvanian people knew about Bram Stoker's Dracula. It wasn't until the collapse of the soviet union that the people there really became aware of Bram Stoker's immortalization of the character.

Well, the Romanians stole the character in the seventies claiming he was Romanian, even though he declares himself as Székely Hungarian in the Bram Stoker book. Romania since capitalized a lot from this lie, building an entire country image around it. The funny thing is, the original book had nothing to do with Romania (that many people assume these days because of Romanian propaganda), Transylvania never belonged to Romania until 1919, when Transylvania was occupied by them, and the book was written in 1897, when it still belonged to the Hungarian kingdom. Interesting, that Béla Lugosi was a Transylvanian Hungarian, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula was a Székely Hungarian in Transylvania, so Béla’s accent in the movie was actually very close to what an actual Dracula Hungarian accent could have been.

@Supernintendo Chalmers I believe Lee. He had a fair amount of dialogue in Horror of Dracula, a lot in Scars, a great deal in Satanic Rites. Risen, Taste the Blood and AD 1972 his lines were few. But in Prince of Darkness he has zero lines. Scriptwriter Jimmy Sangster, who wrote many of Hammer's early classics, changed his name to 'John Samson' for the Prince of Darkness credits. I wonder why?

He refused to say the lines in that movie because they were so bad. That must mean he thought the Prequel lines weren't bad. And who is anyone to disagree with Sir Christopher Lee?

So let me get this right. He rocks up to the set, tells the Director the script is an un-polishable turd but the Director knows that Christopher Lee is so bad ass that his mere silent presence in the movie is still a sure fire winner. If thats not GOAT then I dont know what is.

Interesting, but accurate how he describes dracula as a Transylvanian nobleman, whereas 100 years of horror culture has made the idea of him into just a supernatural monster. If you think about it in terms of that "explain a movie badly" trend, it's like "1 percenter sex predator bites women to death."

Very interesting. As I’m sure everyone reading this will know, very late in his career, Christopher Lee played the role of Count Dukoo in the rebooted Star Wars films. I don’t know what Mr. Lee thought of the dialogue in the Star Wars films in which he starred. However, there is a story about how Harrison Ford reacted to the lines written for him in the very first 1977 Star Wars movie. The story goes that he read the script, he walked into George Lucas‘s office and said to Mr. Lucas “George, do you really expect me to say this shit with a straight face?“

Most of his effects went back to the family far as i am aware. A lot of his inheritence was from his mother's side as they were austrian nobility. I could be wrong. I know his sword went to the british museum
