Saw Christopher Plummer read Henry V with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra about 20 years ago.. Nothing but a chair on the stage and the orchestra in the pit below him.. He came out, so calm and collected and sat down on the chair as the orchestra played the soundtrack from Laurence Olivier's, Henry V film from 1944. The music would dip and he would stand up and recite parts of the play.... the music would swell and he would sit down again... so relaxed and poised. This went on for two hours, he basically recited the whole play.. off the top of his head ... with his fist in the air: .."On Saint Crispin's Day!" ... The pure craftmanship and aplomb that he put into that performance was mesmerizing ... he was the consummate professional, so comfortable in his own skin... and he knew the entire play like the back of his hand. One of the greatest live performances I've ever seen.. We gave him a standing O that day... RIP Christopher Plummer.

The thing about Shatner is that as outrageous as he can be, he's in on the joke. I think if you simply said 'pompous ass' within his earshot, he'd turn and say, 'Yes?' knowing it would give everyone a big laugh. Great actors. We are so lucky to live in the age of film and video. Some of my favorite movies are almost 100 years old. Christopher Plummer will never really be dead. I laughed at what he said about The Sound of Music. They took my cub scout troop to see it, we just squirmed and threw Raisinettes at people - until the Nazis showed up. Then we all sat down and waited for the big battle... that didn't happen. Didn't Chekhov say something about "If you show a Nazi in the second act, you have to shoot him in the third'?

I didn't like the American remake of the "Dragon tattoo" film after seeing all of the Swedish versions. However, Rooney Mara and Christopher Plummer played their characters PERFECTLY. He didn't "act." It was spooky, like he tossed his personality aside and BECAME Mr. Vanger. I haven't seen anyone do that in a looooong time! But then, did you see "Dolores Claiborne"? William Shatner is a very great actor and he will NEVER get the credit for it for a very interesting reason, its his artistic style, his aesthetic philosophy is very much at odds with the current vogue which is naturalism he is not a naturalist, hes a romantic. which is an aesthetic which has been out of favor since actors like Brando,De Niro... ect. became the thing to be its a much more abstract style, the wider abstractions inherent in that style is why he is accused of "over acting" actors like those I've mentioned have a reputation as "rebels" but really when you think about it what Shatner did is far far more rebellious

Possibly best known now for " The Sound of Music " : he apparently didn't relish the role, and you can " sort of" see why...but what a career ! Have a look at biography types of video here on You Tube, it's interesting. One thing about " C.P.", in interviews, he "gives" a lot , and has an amazing recall for names / details from decades before. The perfect " chat show " guest.😊. Here he mentions William Shatner , who understudied when " C.P." had a kidney stone : I didn't know "Bill " had done Shakespeare! He's forever linked to " Star Trek", but he was in " Dr. Kildare" , having a rant at "The Good Doctor", in an early episode...😊....It's fun to hear these "little gems" from the past, like the story Kenneth Williams related about being asked to stand in for Richard Burton, and being thrown in a panic because he hadn't learnt the part ! ( Burton drank loads of beer, and went on anyway ! ). Recently I found " On Golden Pond" with the great Julie Andrews : a videoed performance on a specially constructed film /stage set, with I think about 8 cameras all around, to catch every second : very good. They played the old couple convincingly, as the details of their long life together unfolded. Julie and " Chris" were good friends already for many years, so they complimented each other very well.... . Recommended.😊. Another treat for you is also here : a young "C.P." in an early televised version of " The Prince And The Pauper" . I'm 73 now , and think I saw it on t.v. as a child ...about the right time...?.....the young boy actors were very good for their age ..( But maybe we in U.K. did our own version..? ...not sure....🤔....the C.P. one does look familiar , though...). Do have a look.....😊. Relish the sight of a young, energetic C.P. in tights ! Say no more ! Enjoy ! 😊💕🇬🇧😊🥀🇬🇧
