I think a lot of the comments are missing the point. This is an example of Christopher wards technical prowess. Proof they can produce a case at least the same quality as the big boys. A bracelet with innovations other manufacturers don’t have (an adjustable butterfly) and a visual showcase for their in house movement. This is a halo product that shows what they can do. They will sell every one of them and it will be compared to watches 5x the price specification and finishing wise. Those saying it isn’t “worth” 4k are missing the point that they are happily paying more for watches with a lower technical quality but a “name”

Skeleton dialed watches may not be to the taste of everyone and a watch over 4k may not either. This watch is not for you and thats ok. It's also ok to merit the accomplishment and effort put into something not to one's liking or out of one's price bracket. This is a well made and proper watch. It may not have the Omega or other big brand name but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good watch. What they accomplished, well finished movement, nicely finished Ti case, in-house chronometer certified movement, and a microadjust ON A BUTTERFLY clasp... for under 5k? Lets give them credit. I had a Zenith Defy Skeleton that cost several K more and it didnt have a microadjust. Great accomplishments CW. C60, Bel Canto, The 12, Moonglow, I'm looking foward to see what you do next!

I'd be interested if they used a regular dial (not skeleton) and kept the thickness to 9mm/10mm like the OG. But the bracelet upgrades are very nice updates, as is the Grade 5 Ti bezel. I hope those later upgrades make their way onto the standard Ti Twelve.

I'm a big Zenith fanboy but If take this CW I'd it was in looks alone. I think it achieved a much more cohesive and industrial design than Zenith's skeleton Defy Classic, and somehow they've still made it legible and usable at a watch - I can actually tell the time with it, which I struggled to do with a Defy ! I don't normally like skeletons because of the legibility issue, but CW have solved this and made a skeleton that I could actually see myself buying. Too job, CW 👍😁

I’m also a huge Zenith fanboy for life(except for some of those horrific things they made in the 90’s).😂 You could say Zenith has been resting on their laurels for a LONG time with the El Primero but it’s one of the greatest calibers EVER made! Lots of skeleton watches look cheap as absolute fuck! The Oris is beautiful and the power reserve is incredible but fuk 44mm. You kinda hit the nail on the head with the inherent problem with many skeleton watches…LEGIBILITY!😱😱. I would buy this watch if I liked Skeletons but not with that cheap looking CW signature on the rotor. The Bel Canto is the CW watch for me.
@RadixRill

The thing i don't like about the zenith skeleton that i think this CW does much better.... is the zenith has a lattice structure that traverses the entire dial from one side to the other. The CW doesn't do that and has things hanging from support structures that attach mostly to one side of the dial. Therfore the CW has a more open skeleton feel and produces a better feeling of pieces being suspended in mid air. The CW just looks cleaner and cooler to me over the zenith

But, my gut feeling is that maybe CW is getting ahead of themselves? Overreaching? Having said that, I passed on the Bel Canto as well. Loved that watch but realistically I'd never wear it! This is the same sentiment X2!!!

Your first like 😱😀. So, I’m trying really hard to be nice to this watch! The AP Royal Oak/ GP Laureato bracelet-case looks very well executed and finished. I’d have to see it in person but that bracelet looks outstanding! The micro adjustments on the butterfly clasp are super sweet! It’s not easy to make a Skeletonized watch that doesn’t look like an awful, cheap Chinese watch! This isn’t as good looking as the Oris Pro Pilot X skeleton IMO but the Oris costs allot more and it’s 44mm (Booo Oris). This size is tenable for my wrist unlike the Oris. That CW signature on the rotor is absolutely hideous & makes the beautiful Watch look super cheap & tacky!! Titanium isn’t crazy hard to work with but it’s much harder to work with than steel. Grade 5 isn’t a super high grade Ti but it’s very strong and overall excellent unless you need extreme corrosion resistance. If I was in the market I’d buy it if I could get it without that awful CW sig. on the rotor!

Priced more than the Bel Canto but only skeletonized and reserve power increase. Don't think it's worth the value to be honest. If it was 20-25% more than the existing titanium twelve then perhaps it'll be a hit, but 220% ain't exactly what customers are looking for 😅
@SunnysinisterSD
5 ай бұрын
I agree that this watch isn't nearly as good of a deal as the Bel Canto, but I don't necessarily think that makes it a bad deal or not worth the value. The bel canto is one of the most explosive successes in all of "affordable" watchmaking and is continuing to sell out faster than they can produce them, with their limited releases always having wait lists. This twelve is a non-limited watch so the pricing structure is going to be different, and I think that is somewhat fair. From a subjective point of view, I agree with you, I'm not going to be racing to CW to buy this watch, but I think it will be interesting to see how these sell, I have a feeling there will be a definite market for it.
@chihoivanchin5157
5 ай бұрын
If I have to pay this price simply cos of the increased reserve power from the double barrel "in house" SH21 movement and the micro adjustment, I'd rather buy the Bel Canto and wait for it even if it has a waiting list. The SH21 isn't a new movement, I believe CW used it before in their C63 concept a while back (please correct me if I'm wrong). If the price is simply reflecting the "in house" movement and micro adjustment on the bracelet, where everything else is the same as the titanium 12, then the 220% price is overpriced in my opinion. I agree some may still purchase this watch but I doubt it'll be a hit as the Bel Canto which they priced in similar pricing. Eventually the micro adjustment on the bracelet will be available for the other CW 12 models. I just don't see how the difference in movement can justify for the price difference 😅
@Ae073001
5 ай бұрын
The Bel Canto is a wonderful watch, but remember, the movement is a base Selita, and they added to it. This watch features a fully in-house which has been reworked for this model. That adds to cost. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Doesn't mean this isn't a good watch, but it's a good watch, not for you... for whatever reason.
@chihoivanchin5157
5 ай бұрын
I agree it's a good watch, just the pricing is too aggressive, as others have also pointed. Movements usually accounts for about 70% of the watch price, considering the CW12 in titanium is around 2000 USD, this means that apart from the movement everything else is only 600 USD worth. Even if selita movement was used and cost is cheaper, let's say the other components actually cost 1000 USD altogether, is the SH21 movement currently worth 3500 USD as CW priced it at, considering the retail price of this watch is about 4500 USD? Bel Canto, though it's selita movement, but the functionality as a chime watch and the technical difficulty involved is more than a skeletonized watch with 120-hour power reserve. Hence even with the pricing, people are still willing to buy it and be on the waiting list till it is mass produced. This is what I mean this watch is overpriced. If it was priced at 3000-3500 USD it makes more sense, but at 4500 I really doubt CW will get the number of purchases they hope to achieve.

Nice review! CW is so much better at product development and marketing than its microbrand competitors that it is hardly a contest. Even Tudor and Omega could learn a lot about how to develop and roll out new watches from CW. I have owned three CWs and respect the brand deeply even though I have moved upmarket from their watches. As usual, this watch is a screaming deal, despite some critics who contend otherwise. Will I bite? Maybe. Love the monotone, lack of date and branding, the braclet, the modest use of polish, and the size. The real question for me is do I want a skeleton on my wrist? I like exhibition casebacks, but exhibition case fronts are a bigger step. Fortunately, they will be at the Windup Watch Fair in San Francisco in five days -- so I can try one in the metal. Worth attending the fair just for this!

It's a pretty damn nice watch. However.. at $4865 USD on the bracelet, that's a bit ambitious. On a lower luxury tier, it's kind of how I (we) feel about the new IWC Ingenieur pricing at well over $10k. They're both a wee bit more than we'd expect and hope to pay for brand new. IDK?.. maybe it's fair pricing?.. but, I think it'll be hard sell and there will be a lot of "...I think I'd rather buy this other watch instead for that kind of money..." And, at 41mm with an integrated bracelet style watch, it will wear bigger than a normal 41mm watch would.. I'd say approximately at least 2mm more.. which for my 7" wrist ain't so great. Good for those who have at least 7.5"+ larger wrists and large budget for such a watch.

After perusing the comments about this watch and about CW themselves, I just have to laugh.. People are comparing it to Zenith, or other brands etc and how its not worth the money blah blah.. I own a ton of watches and quite a few from all the majors (Rolex, Omega, Panerai many Zenith models and I could go on for another few sentences) but I also own a shit ton of CW watches as well.. Most around the $1k mark and a bunch of their limited ones as well (that are obviously more $$).. They make a GREAT watch even if you take the price out of it.. My Zenith Defy skeleton pre owned was twice this price and has some cool features but I wouldn't say its twice as good. If you're into collecting like myself an many others, these unique watches are very collectable unlike a Rolex that it seems everyone has (not to mention that its THE most faked watch in existence). If this watch was over $10k then yes I would agree that its overpriced.. Its not and its a limited model.. The Chinese won't bother to make a fake and I'll guarantee you'll never see another one unless you go to a CW fanboy festival:) If its not for you don't buy it, but appreciate the quality and the fact that a company which in my opinion is still a microbrand actually made it (like the Bel Canto). And one last note, I own a ton of major Swiss made watches and if you think they are actually worth what you pay retail you're nuts.. Ever buy a Louis Vuitton for your girl? Most of their bags are made of vinyl for god's sake and are not worth it either, but we still get them because its a luxury item and it makes the women happy that they have one..

Very expensive. For the price there are better options like Tudor, Breitling etc.

Honestly speaking as a Tudor owner and former Breitling owner, they aren't making watches like this. Tudor, yes you can get a BB, which is a standard sports watch. I would argue that people interested in this watch either have a Tudor or similar and looking for something different and not the standard BB style watch. Also Breitling is pretty much the same thing. One can get an Avenger or Superocean, but again I would argue that this watch is for someone who either has something similar and looking for something new. Also, those Brieling's have very basic movements, but still charge 4 and 5K for it. And good luck finding a Breitling with a B01 movement for under 5k, used or otherwise. This watch may not be for the general watch consumer or for someone looking into luxury for the first time. CW doesn't have brand equity. If Omega, Rolex, Tudor or any other known watch brand made this watch 90% of folks on here would lose their minds and drop the funds with little hesitation. I get it, but in 10 years from now I'm very interested to see what CW can and will do.

Far too expensive... For a Bel canto it's ok, but not for this...

It’s hideous… Skeletonized watches look awful in general… It’s a niche market and I don’t understand that niche… Put a mother of pearl dial on it with nicely finished multifaceted nicely finished indices and then you’ve got a nice looking watch.

Black seconds hand doesn't work and (again) no lume...also I wish indixes tobe bit longer. Overall backside looks much better then a face.

I really liked the effect...the hand was very visible in the dark, like a notch marker moving along the surrounding circular lume to show the seconds. Granted, if you're middle-aged or straight-up nearly dead then your eyesight probably won't be up to it. 😁

Too expensive, too big and as I find all skeletonized watches, too ugly. I do like the 36mm twelve.

Did you said LTL 54 mm ?
@MattSeesGray

The case is a 40mm L2L. All he’s saying is that the bracelet doesn’t articulate from the case at a 90 degree angle. It’s not going to wear like a 54mm lug to lug, but it will certainly wear larger than the 41mm diameter suggests.

Waaaay to pricey for a CW. There’s soooo many watches that are better buys at $5k than this. CW def jumped out of their lane on this one.
@ph8077

They jumped out of their lane with the Bel Canto too...that went pretty well for them.

@@ph8077 The Bel Canto was a MUCH more justifiable price for what you're getting. Hell....it's a superior complication and priced well below this. Very possible this does well for them....who knows. But as a potential customer for watches in this price range....there are several others I would look at before I even thought of giving this one consideration. I just think they've priced it to high....the watch itself looks decent.

This is a hard pass for me. It looks cheap, Christopher Ward is now releasing too many new watches at the wrong price point. The design and looks just feels like it's a Aliexpress chinese skeleton watch retailing at $400. If I really want a Skeleton of this kind. I would save a little more and get a Used Zenith DEFY Skeleton. 3-4k more than this CW Twelve X. Look at the spacing on the bracelet jeez.

Way too expensive. The price doesn't match the finishing of the parts inside the dial. I see some rough edges and either dirt or inconsistent brushing in the gears. The Bel Canto looks much more interesting to me.

Nothing about that movement that makes me want to look at it. The barrels and springs are especially not attractive in this layout. Not sure why they are showing off this very crude looking movement. For the price, there are so many better options.
