Yes i agree we pianists tend to collect a lot of sample libraries. I certainly don't need another piano but lately i have been intrigued by Hammers and waves. Thanks for a good demo.

Hammers and Waves does sound great. I picked up their newer EP library when it was on sale about a month or 2 ago and really like it. Teletone Audio's Golden Age Grand also sounds pretty amazing.

Great video, thanks. I've just bought Chroma, and it's only the second piano VST plugin I own. I already see hours being lost in this thing, so I can't imagine what it must be like owning tons of piano libraries. Innundation with options is certainly something our forebears didn't have to worry about. There was an old upright piano in someone's house, a pub or church hall and that was that. If you had any kind of piano in your own house, you were lucky. My mum has an old digital baby grand from Roland, made 20 years ago, which sounds naff compared to modern plugins on PC, but she still thinks it sounds great.

Thanks Barry. Yeah, I would say digital piano sound and feel has come along way just in the last 10 years. It's a good time to be a musician!

@@arcticfoxstudios2018 The other VST is something called Ivory 1, but I can't install it as it's from 2005 and contains multiple discs. My current PC doesn't even have a disc drive! 🤣 I bet my Chroma won't even work by the time my son starts College By the way, nice one for introducing me to Native Instruments eFX Fragments, I must have missed it. Mixing that up with Chroma and some of my Montage patches is literal heaven. 😃

Nice demo... if I was in the market for something like this, Youmight have me convinced. For my uses the Kontakt and the like will suffice for now! Thanks for a great review and demo though, Very relaxing and enjoyable!!

Thanks Michael. All 4 of the 'particle engine' type pianos are great. I actually tend to use them more than the stock Kontakt ones.

It's hard to make a convincing argument that anyone who already owns the full version of Kontakt "needs" a new piano. On the other hand, (as you point out) practically no guitarist "needs" a new guitar. In that context, your video does a good job at showing what Chroma can do, so those who are interested can make the decision on whether it is worth buying to them.

Thanks Steve. I'm kind of partial to the new particle instruments. I've been eyeing Hammers & Waves too, but for now, Piano Colors and Chroma are a pretty potent combination. Add Ekorain in and you can get some really magical sounding patches.

Very nice demo. Definitely not as bright as Yamahas usually are. My best "Ferrari " experience so far is a Steinway baby grand, playing alone in a church. I even recorded it for a track I produced on 4-track cassette in the late 80s. These days, I'm content with EWQL Pianos Platinum. Older, but fine in a mix. Although hardware bound, I'm curious about your opinion of Roland's SuperNatural pianos on their digitals and new Fantom (not 0x) line (?).

Yeah, I kind of have a soft spot myself for smaller Steinways. I played one from the 1940's or 50's in a Methodist church once which had just fantastic acoustics and was blown away. It's almost like time stands still when you play something like that. I'm not really hooked on Roland's current piano offerings (although if they have newer pianos in their 0x line, then I haven't heard those). It's funny, I think they sound fine when I hear other people play them, but when I do, it's like it's missing something and I can't put my finger on it. I do like the sound and feel of the new Yamaha YP line though. Great playing experience and also the Nord Grand is something else. Their White Piano patch sounds gorgeous. I believe that one is a smaller Steinway if I recall correctly.
