Thanks for giving me hope. I've told my first nephrologist that he hasn't helped me, his office didn't return my calls, he is associated with Fresenius dialysis, his the only goal is to prepare you for dialysis and it's inevitable. My Primary Care Physician, has given me the the same blood tests and has been generally supportive with responsive medical assistants. Best decision I've done is get a better Nephrologist!

My doctor will never let me have blood work done every 2 months much more every 2 weeks. I had asked my first doctor for a requisition to get a vitamin D, B12 and an advance thyroid test done because my hair was falling and my fingernails had ridges. He said you're getting older so it's normal for your hair to fall. I also told him that I was paying for the vitamin D test because OHIP doesn't cover it; he said, "you've money to waste, you don't need it"! I left him and got my present doctor whom had sent me for all those test and when the results were back I had Hypothyroidism! My doctor suggested that I take Synthroid and although it has only been one month since I'm taking it, I'm already feeling much better!

I always ask that same question of my doctors when they recommend a supplement (and learned never to self prescribe supplements). My renal dietitian recommended ProRenal+D with Omega 3 and Kibow Fortis (along with the renal probiotic Renadyl). It's important to always have a reason for a supplement - don't just take them because you HOPE they will help...they wont and could even accelerate the loss of kidney function. Your health care team will know which supplements are best for you and can recommends brands.

I looked up Robert Galarowicz and see he has a Low Protein Diet book and a Vegetarian Diet book for people with Kidney Disease. Which diet is best for you really needs to come from your health team (your doctor or your dietitian). We each respond differently and have unique needs that are diet must account for. My goal is to help provide additional information to help people have deeper, more meaningful conversations with their doctors - to not give up hope, to know that fighting Kidney Disease is an option. My recommendation for you would be to work with your doctor. Good luck!!

How does the prorenal help if it has added phosphorus and potassium? Please explain
@DADVICETV
5 жыл бұрын
One mistake many people make, and this is caused by doctors/dietitians not fully explaining things, is that while we don't need TOO MUCH of many things, we also don't need TOO LITTLE. Having TOO little potassium is just as bad for you as having TOO much. I recommend using a tracking app like Chronometer which can track your micronutrients to help you stay between your daily min and max for potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sodium, carbs, protein, and calories. You should also always check with your doctor before adding or removing any supplements or medications to your treatment - just to make sure it's ok based on your current medical condition and treatment strategy. If your doctor didn't give you minimums for each of those, I'm not going to be surprised, and I'd recommend emailing them (if they have email) and asking. It's critical to have a balanced diet and to provide your body the nutrients it needs - not too much and not too little.

Supplements are used to fill gaps you have in your diet or nutrition. It is perfectly possible to not need any and adding supplements would then be a waist of money and could put more work on the kidneys. There are no supplements that directly improve our kidneys. We each need to always ask our doctor before adding supplements - they know our health best and will know if supplements can help in any areas. I know this isn’t the answer you were hoping for - but you may not have any issues where supplements can help and your doctor is not recommending any.

Is red pepper or cayenne pepper good for the kidneys? Can CKD patients eat ice cream??
@DADVICETV
3 жыл бұрын
There are really only 2 foods I know of that are BAD for kidneys - Star Fruit and Black Licorice. Outside of that, it comes down to PORTION control. How much of a portion you can have will depend on your health, and your diet. I've found it is easier to approach the diet like an allowance. You are given a daily allowance of protein, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, fiber, etc. You are allowed to eat what you want as long as you don't exceed your allowances. There are also daily minimums you need to get - so don't cut back all the way on any one nutrient. This is where a renal dietitian can be a HUGE help. They can help you determine your daily minimums and maximums for key nutrients - they you use a free food tracking app (there are lots of them) and eat within your limits. And Yes, you can fit ice cream into your diet...it just may not be as much as you used to eat and you may have to cut back on the sundae toppings and hot fudge. :-)

I am a trainer of kidney stones. I have already operated 7 times but the problem with the doctors here is that they do not send you anything to improve or prevent kidney stones. They just say drink lots of water and voila. They do not send any supplements. It's kind of annoying. It is like being on the run and fighting with what you have at hand. :/

My friend doctor told her to eat a lot of cucumbers. They help you pass the stones.

Sorry, I do not know. I recommend asking your doctor (any of them should know - even your family doctor) or a dietitian.

What is a good or normal level of Vitamin D3 for kidney disease
@DADVICETV
2 жыл бұрын
When you do your labs, the normal range for vitamin D is 30-100. Your doctor will determine where you should fall within that range. For example, mine has me on a higher level of vitamin D (100-110). Each persons treatment strategy will be customized by your health care team.

Hi just asking if a 24 hours fasting is okay to a person with kidney disease like Iga nephropaty disease
@DADVICETV
4 жыл бұрын
The only person who can really answer that is your doctor - if you are diabetic they may have concerns. I've done 24 hour fast where I only drink water with no problems, but I am not diabetic.

Hey james I just want to ask if is it ok to use apple cider vinegar in ckd?
@DADVICETV
5 жыл бұрын
I use it and it's on the list my dietitians helped me create containing kidney-friendly foods. Apple Cider vinegar only has 11mg of potassium per tablespoon, making it a very very low potassium source. Most dietitians recommend between 1500mg-2700mg per day on a renal diet, so you can easily fit it in. Good luck and great health!!!

Digging your videos, I am currently dealing with a sudden inflammation I was eating well but something has changed. I've been eating a lot of whole grain hot cereals. Oatmeal with 7 grain and ancient grains with a big handful of berries, blue, black. Raspberry and strawberries

Yes it has, in 3 weeks I have dropped my creatinine down to 22.2 a pretty big number, if you are lowering your creatinine no red meat no pork and just find out what your food has in it

I would say for me giving up red meat and baby back ribs was the toughest. Also eat your big meals or meat early in the day, your kidneys need to repair and if you are still processing food i.e. filtering, your kidneys are working

@danieltriplett6717 Thanks I just gave up redmeat and chicken. Im also eating oatmeal and blueberries for breakfast but haven't figured out my lunch and dinner meals yet. Could you let me know what you eat for lunch and dinner. I don't want to lose to much weight. Thanks again.
