Never stopped listening to this absolute classic. Over and above his other tunes, Chronos always had a certain something that made it even more compulsive. The little moments that, like in Agent X towards the end section, almost seem to defy any sort of logic - sounds come together to be way, way more than the beeper should ever have been capable of. Incredible and still virtually unlistenable to those that don't know or understand :) His signature arpeggio still makes me tingle every time. Amazing.

Hi there! Are u still alive? Just vanna say that zx 48 that plays here haz no sound chip) This is pure beeper (1 leg of cpu turns 5v "on and off" to a piezo element that do one "tick" sound, and that's all sound hardware avaliable)).
@redpheonix1000
Жыл бұрын
@@MetaJamm This also has the fun side effect that playing music of this kind takes up 100% of the CPU's time to do! In fact, this is only half true, because doing a simple Beep command in BASIC ties up the CPU in the same way. Because the CPU is responsible for timing the "ticks" exactly, if it's busy doing anything else, the sound has to stop. This is why in games like Manic Miner, one of the earliest to have "ingame music", the music is all broken up. When the music _isn't_ playing, is when the CPU is doing everything else, such as running the game logic, drawing the screen, and capturing the player inputs. This is _also_ why every time it's playing music like in the video, nothing changes on the screen.

Well the beeper had only one sound channel meaning sound produced from it was very limited and it was very difficult to create music from it as it was so basic. But the way Tim Follin produced music from the beeper was like no other, he somehow managed to create 3, 4 or 5 different channels where it was hardly capible of creating a two channel sound. There is a story that I keep thinking of while listening to this awesome tune: Many years ago, a researcher was working the graveyard shift at a small radio telescope. Suddenly his attention was drawn towards an unusual faint and, seemingly modulated radio-signal that had been emitted from an unknown source, countless light-years away. After a bit of tinkering, he noticed that the signal appeared to carry a mysterious set of sharp pulse waves in the audible spectrum, that sort of resembled music. Out of curiosity the researcher output this signal through the tiny speaker built into his computer workstation, and this is what he heard: 0:00 This song always spaces me out hard! Does anyone else get that kind of vibe?

@cityside75 1987 was the year in which Mega Man and Castlevania were released; Mario was released two years prior and Out Run for Master System was released on 86, so it wasn't "ahead of it's time". What makes it unbelieavable is that the composition is astronomically astoundingly good and the fact that it's ONLY ONE SOUND CHANNEL.
