That's what I love about points ignition. Have a spare set, and you will never be stranded. Electronic by other hand... Especially those crappy Pertronix conversions.

I converted to Petronics, it let me down once so far. I always keep spare points in the glove box just in case.

I see no advantage of changing the car's factory stock characteristics just not to change points. The Pertronix won't give you all the advantages of a factory electronic ignition, plus is really unreliable. I have to change the points once a year, and that takes about 5 minutes. The car runs great, starts right away, and is easy to repair. Take a factory ignition like the Ford Duraspark (have one from the factory on my '82 Galaxie), it gives a spark the Pertronix can't even dream on giving, plus have the sensor hall system that is more precise and efficient. I say, leave the car the way it came from the factory, it's easier, and won't cost you a dime.

I converted to a Pertronix about 12 years ago on my '72 Fury III with a 318. I gained power and mileage and has never failed. I'm glad I did it. I have other antique Mopars and the rest have points.

I have a 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger with a 318 and it won't start, I drove it on Friday and then it wouldn't start on Sunday, I will check the points to see if that is the problem. Was that your problem?

I'm going to go look at a 67 Coronet with a 318 in a couple of days that according to the owner has a breaker point problem. Your vid had been helpful. Thanks.

Hi. I have a '72 satellite with a 318. I changed the vacuum advance and accidentally moved the entire plate out of adjustment in the distributor. The car is running rough and missing badly. Do I just need to readjust the points? This type of ignition system is new to me. Thanks.

Wouldn't"t hurt to check. A lot of people go electronic and some who went electronic move back to points for simplicity.

If its not too much to ask, could you put the part list in the description? I've been looking at a 1966 or 1967 impala, and I'll have to replace the ignition breaker points every 10k miles as well.

Easy to change to electronic on GM. Buy HEI distributer from newer car very easy hook up (1 wire). not so easy on Mopars.

That reduction/direct gear starter noise. classic. I've got a 1964 Dodge custom 880 with that same noise. *Ah yes... a fellow chrysler/mopar enthusiast...* By the way what motor do you have? 361? 383? 413? smooth startup!
