That's not yarn... That's just the pure wool, it hasn't been spun. It's also known to be a pretty poor knitting/crocheting material because, since it hasn't been spun into yarn, it's basically loose fiber and it falls apart VERY easily. Also it gathers dust and dirt like crazy, and don't even think of washing it unless you want a bunch of loose fiber into your machine, or if you wash by hand, a falling apart soggy fiber mess that you can't hang to dry and that'll probably get moldy with all the moisture.
@Smulenify
Жыл бұрын
I might be wrong but this looks a lot like wool roving, which is unspun yarn (it's prepped for spinning, but not actually spun and is meant for people who want to spin their own yarn at home) which is a big problem! When the wool is not spun the fibres will easily seperate which means the blanket will easily come undone, shed and pile, it will look bad within days or weeks. It's also a magnet for dust and pet hair, and it can't be washed because it will definitely felt and look terrible + fall apart. This isn't that different from taking a bag of cotton strips (degreasing cotton) and making a blanket out of that, it won't hold. Except the wool is so much more expensive. I would be sceptical of any 100% wool yarn that size, if it is actually yarn and not roving it will definitely be more expensive to buy the yarn vs an actual knit blanket (hundreds of dollars, if not thousands). If you want to make something like this I recommend going for a synthetic fibre yarn, a tube yarn or jumbo chenille. The first kind being the most similar, but might also have some shedding issues depending on quality. It'll likely hold better, be much cheaper and will also be a lot lighter since synthetic yarn generally is. One brand I've heard mentioned is Couture Jazz, but I have never tried it myself.

Apart from this possibly falling apart due to the material used another issue is the stockinette stitch, which you wouldn't usually use for a project that's supposed to lay flat. The stitch curls up on it's own, and sure, you can block it like you did, but there are simply better ways (like using double sided stitches) to deal with this. also using a crochet stitch rather than a knitting stitch would make this project much easier to pull off and less prone to unraveling while you work on it
@susanhardesty7668

If you decide to finger knit a blanket (with any yarn), i recommend not pulling loops up as high as she did. The bigger the loops, the bigger the gaps in the blanket. You can see when she holds it over her shoulders how big the gaps in the blanket are. I def reccomend only pulling up loops a short amount so that the following row is snug. But then again, this is also a personal preference
