I have a Hi8 with a broken flash. I highly both recommend doing a clean install of windows and caution against it. Coming from China as it does, there is likely spyware that is easier to hide on windows than the android partition. Many have noted these devices coming with administrator-level users already built in Chinese native language when they receive their Hi-devices which is a huge red flag. However it is INCREDIBLY easy to break the complicated and clandestine partitioning these devices use, and there is literally no warranty, even if it breaks during completely innocent usage. If the windows-side breaks and you've installed any windows updates whatsoever, it is written into the void-warranty clause. Yes, you heard correctly. Allowing windows updates to install will void your warranty, which windows does automatically.. so by basically booting the windows-side, your device is effectively stripped immediately of any warranty. Just be careful. There is a reason these are so cheap. The no-name parts are the cheapest of the cheapest, and they are incredibly unreliable. There is a very high rate of failure among motherboards, the hard drive flash, and GPU. These things are super finicky and will brick super easy with tinkering. What's worse, the software images are very difficult come by. The websites are all in Chinese and come with a "use this at your own risk" disclaimer type thing, like "if you break android, trying to fix it might brick windows and vice versa, but we're not responsible either way. Heck, we're not responsible for ANYTHING, because we say so." It may seem like I'm trashing them. If you're really penny pinching, then okay but for the money the Hi12 costs, you're creeping into fully-functioned laptop territory. My GF has a HiBook and that thing rocks. But I'll always expect it to die any day now.

I have been informed this is done on all units to activate windows. just do a factory reset and it should remove the account. I wouldn't attempt to do anything serious with android partition because the windows install is built inside. you might break them both.

You MUST turn on "High Performance" mode in the power settings before doing any sort of review of the newer windows laptops/tablet ( including Microsoft Surface). Everything runs butter smooth. You can't do it on tablets by default though. They come with "Connected Standby" enabled. Go to registry settings and turn it off (CSEnabled = 0), restart, and you'll get the power mode options. My cheap $200 chinese tablet with 1920×1200 display doesn't have any performance issues with flash/asphalt 8. Although I took the driver backup and then repartitioned the whole disk and installed win 10 fresh.

all the chuwi reviewers have affiliate links so they never tell you or demonstrate just how slow this tablet is. web browsing is very slow, youtube videos stutter, the wifi fails to connect on startup for a long time. the speakers are awful. the battery drains terribly;y fast and takes around 14 hours to recharge whilst being off. plugged in on the most battery conserving settings it drains while using it. the rear camera on mine is not being recognized by the camera app which did not come pre installed

Hi NB - Many thanks for such a thorough review! I just received my Hi12 and I have a few questions: Why does the keyboard (in Windows) not pop up automatically when I tap in text boxes and fields? Even more annoying: I can't seem to get rid of Chuwi's "Kl" local account. I added my own Microsoft Account, but the Kl account is the only one that appears under Windows/Users. It gives me some trouble on boot up also: I have to choose my Microsoft Acct and input the password automatically even though I have set it to auto login through Netplwiz. The Kl acct isn't visible through Netplwiz, which is frustrating. What are your thoughts?
@TheNorthernBlogger
8 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Wood hey well see if I can help: Regarding the keyboard I find it really annoying too but it only applies in desktop mode and you can change it by going to Settings > Devices > Typing and it should be the last option. I always setup a new "local" account then delete the Chuwi one. I try not to use a Microsoft Account as I find them a pain. Maybe try that and see if it auto logs in.
@ryandariushwood225

Thanks for a prompt reply! I fiddled with local accounts before I contacted you actually. I've emailed Chuwi about it. Also, did you notice anything quirky with the MicroSD card slot? It doesn't seem to have the usual click and release functionality of most slots. It goes in, seems to stay there, but it will not come back out again. Very odd.

QUESTION: how does the performance of the Xeon CPU in this tab compare to the Intel Atom chips in other tabs like the Teclast X98 Pro? You said the clock speed could only turbo up to 1.8 GHz, so, whereas Cherry Trail is like 2.0-2.2 GHz, so I was wondering if that was very noticeable?

This tablet does not have a Xeon CPU (Xeons are for servers and high-end workstations). The Hi12 uses a Z8300 Atom processor The Teclast X98 Pro uses the Z8500 Atom processor. You can find benchmark comparisons online (cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Atom-x5-x5-Z8500-vs-Intel-Atom-x5-x5-Z8300). These show about 20% better scores. However, these aren't going to pan out in too many real world cases. In most cases, any task which won't run on the z8300 isn't going to run on the z8500. Both would likely run into issues with components maxing out also -- WiFi speeds, disk space, RAM speeds/usage, GPUs, etc. If you are running a web browser, light MS Office apps, watching Netflix, etc. both are fine. If you try running most games, massive Excel apps, Photoshop, etc. both would likely be unable or unusable. It would be difficult to find an edge case where you'd notice the difference in the Z8300 vs. Z8500.

It would have been nice, in the description of the screen, if you had given the resolution and PPI of the screen. You said the screen was wonderful but as a minimum, in reviews, we expect the specifications of the screen,. In your game demonstration you talked about the graphics not being able to play the game and then you talked about reducing the specifics to a lower level. This information was useless because you failed to give the game's graphics at start or after the which. How much ram does the device have? What kind of processor is it using. You did not compare it to other tablets in it's size and operation. This review was not very useful as a result of these obvious omissions. I am sorry but this review needs to be improved.
@TheNorthernBlogger
8 жыл бұрын
My videos are designed to offer information outside of what you can Google about the tablet and there is only so much i can cover and as you can see it's already over 30 mins long! Not to be rude but if you want the full specifications of the tablet then use you're preferred search provider and type in the search "Chuwi Hi12 Specifications" and that will provide all the information you need. Also regarding the graphics you should be able to attain that I'm running the default resolution hence why it makes sense to say you will need to lower it in order to work correctly. Also in the kindest possible way this is a free service so if you don't like my videos then just avoid them. I also apologise for failing you and I hope you find the perfect review for your specific wants and needs.

Also I think you could try disabling those gestures by blocking some key combinations (W10 recieves those gestures as WIN+TAB or WIN+DOWN) using a program like ATNSOFT Key Manager. Free version should be enough ;)

+MrDominosify hi, it supports the general features like two finger scrolling and pinch to zoom. They can all be found on the Microsoft website. I have tried multiple software but if I manage to disable the gesture on the trackpad it also disables it on the screen as a touch gesture. I will try out your suggestion though :-)

Hi, Thanks for detailed review of this product! I have already ordered one and waiting for it to come. Planning to "Clean Restore Windows 10" and wondered how is it going to affect DualBoot partitions of Android? Does it reinstalls Android as well? Or is it better to "Create System Image" out of the box and use it in future for Reinstallations? I would really prefer an option of clean restore if possible. Really appreciate your thoughts on this!

I have recently received this product (Win10 + Adnroid) and was shocked that it has in total 14 different partitions! Based on your reply I'm really prone to do a clean Windows Restore and safely delete unneccessary partitions. Is it the same on your side? Have you tried to delete any partitions? Thanks for sharing such useful information before! I'm wondered if anyone else tried to do a Clean Windows Restore using build-in windows utility. Does Windows downloads correct drivers automatically?

The program : EaseUS Todo Backup Advanced Server 9.2 works perfectly will booting with F7 until boot from USB WinPE usb 2.0 drive. I inserted a portable usb HD of 5 TO into the usb 3.0 port and it work perfectly. Didn't try to restore it yet. On other site, some say restore Android partition first and then Windows version last.

Great Review! thanks...May i check if you could do a guide on adjusting the graphics settings. When i watch twitch with google chrome on windows mode it lags, but it doesnt lag when in android mode...It probably means that the tablet has the graphics capacity to stream with no lag, but i am not sure how to go about doing so...

Very comprehensive review. Thanks. I purchased my dual Hi12 with keyboard from Banggood for under £197, inclusive of delivery. There were no additional import charges. A complete bargain for what you get! I have very few complaints: light bleed on dark scenes, 64GB max SD card in Android. I think the volume is fine, but it can be greatly boosted for those who need it with DFX software (works in Windows). Overall, a fantastic tablet that I am thrilled to own. Thanks again for your review.

+Vernal Scott I agree for the price you can't beat it. I would be interested to see the HiBook with the different port configuration but the Hi12 is perfect for most purposes. I don't think I'll be using Android that much. You're welcome, thank you for being an active commenter :-)
