Fun fact, almost everyone smoked in the trenches. Because the stench of millions of men not being able to use the bathroom anywhere but the flooded trench, or bury the bodies in no man's land. Or even in their own trenches. And you'd have a collection of dead, some from the start of the war and some recently killed. And you had to live in those flooded, lousy, gas laden trenches day in and day out.

What a load of crap. The reason everyone smoked was that it was normal anyway. It was part of their rations anyway. You also wore a gas mask when gas attacks happened. You clearly know nothing about ww1.

@@bradleystahl596 Facts about war is not fun? so the study of the history of war? I disagree. I enjoy history and it's the most important subject as it's the study of humanity. But I think you mean "war is not fun" the act. If it's not fun why do we love to show it in our media? We love war. Always have and always will. History is the study of humanity. And history has shown our love for war. We even had gods we worshipped for war. Oh and if "we can justify" a war so as to make ourselves look right all the better we love to do that. You attacked our citizens it's war. Does it matter if it was probably a civil dispute nope two countries at war? Greek houses after destroying Troy went to war with each other. Even after what 10 - 20 years of war they wanted more. China man do they love war they have great stories. Same with Japanese. China was nuts. I mean largest sea battle ever happened in a river. And millions died in their wars. Wasn't until ww1 that we got anywhere close to their levels.

Yep 100%. Everyone smoked really and they gave you between 10-20 ciggies a day with your daily ration. My g-granddad smoked from the age of ten up until he passed away at 104. Actually here's a real fact, he used to rub the cigarette on his gum..something you'll see Murphy doing in p/blinders. Why? The cigs were filterless then and the paper sticks your lips. So gumming it is out of necessity really as it stops it sticking. He wasnt much phased by the gore of the trenches, youd be surprised with what someone can get used too. What he never got used to was how to adjust and i recall moments from my childhood with him where hed seem to get younger, snap back to that time and tell me a funny story. Also slang..the real p/blinders were between 1890-1912 (not 1900..just pre the great war) slang in England is as follows. A 'peaky' was a bowler styled hat, it also stood for a smart evening hat like what the gentlemen wore in an evening. A 'blinder' was a well made/tailored suit. A peaky blinder meant a man very well dressed. Immaculate and of upstanding quality. Only once is there a record of a man using a razor blade to slash an oppos face (related to that organisation) and it wasn't fully concealed in a cap peak. It slightly predates the original peaky blinders. You'd be more likely to face a cosh or other blunt-bladed object in the tight and narrow alleys of their world. My great aunt polly worked at a brewery shifting the old kegs from the yard to the brewery itself. Always dark, coal and soot everywhere. Wouldn't need to hide a blade lol
