Great video as usual. I'll probably get shit on for this, but in terms of image quality, the difference between DZO and the Sigma's are so nuanced that I don't think any viewer would ever notice. I have a hard time justifying the price difference for anything other than the Cine functionality & utility, if you need it.

if your a lens fanatic or if you stop and look close enough you can see the slight differences. I'm saying this cause I agree with you on a general level. I also agree with you (between these 2 lenses) that functionality & utility are the major differences. Many lens snobs would disagree. But you know what? It isn't about them, Its about you and your creative approach. The best part about making your own films is you can use whatever the hell you want! Love saying that 😆

As someone who owns both, you'd be surprised. The Sigmas are tack sharp across the entire image, and I've found that clients and directors tend to notice that something is different. They can't normally place their finger on what it is, but for commercial work, they tend to like the clean look of the sigma's more.

I wanted the DZO until I saw how soft they were in Epic Light Media's video review. I like the sigma's but didn't want to deal with the "rigging" of a lens to make it a cinema lens. So... I got the modded Sigmas from Cinematics/PCHood in China last year and I've been a happy camper ever since. Great video!

The Pictor has a less video commercial look. The sigma looks great but has a less cinema look a bit crispy crunchy sterile looking but perfect for stills that dont require as much creative/softer/character. I love my stills lenses for my print work as they scale well and are easy to post process for the frame. Cine lenses simply dont require as much fussing but the right tool for the right job etc. all you have is all you need.

For my purposes, the price is the only downside for DZOFilm. (But I bought a pair anyway, heh.) I don’t mind the weight. It’s one of the lightest cine zooms there is, but what weight it has is great for stabilization. (Looking at you Pocket 6k lol.) I like the fact that not only is it being parfocal handy to keep keep focus while adjusting your shots, it also adds an important artistic shot that’s almost impossible to get otherwise; the slow zoom. (Or sometimes fast!) I like the follow focus gears. I like the 16 blade iris... (not sure what Sigma has, I’m sure it’s fine.) And I like the slightly softer imaging characteristics. Idk, most lenses will do the job, but I like having a cinema lens for the narrative cinema-like projects I’m tackling. Might get a really wide prime someday as well... or save for the equally expensive Tokina 11-20 zoom... 😅

@@GOLDWULF Right on dude, sounds great! Another person commented and left me this little bit supposedly directly from DZOFilm, so I'll just leave it here if it helps: "With the same object distance and the same frame size, the focal length of the two lenses will change somewhat, which has something to do with breathing and distortion. 1. Breathing produces a certain focal length/field of view variation. 2. Distortion produces a range of field difference: because there is a pillow distortion at the 55mm of 20-55 and a barrel distortion at 55mm of the 50-125." So yeah, could be more clear, but I'd be interested in any observations you have, or tests on the barrel and pillow (or pin cushion?) distortion. Chromatic aberration... stuff like that. I'm well aware they aren't absolutely perfect, but I think even with pretty large price tag (for me), their strengths justify it. They produce some of the most filmic looks I've seen in a digital image... and am I wrong that zooms aren't supposed to have great bokeh, but these somehow do it pretty well anyway?? Well carry on, and good luck brother! (Looking forward to more videos!)

I'm looking for good wide lens. It can be zoom or prime. What is your recommendation to pair it with sigma 24-70?

My recommendation is based on a pair I used a while back. The best wide angle zoom lens IMO (and affordable) is Tokina 11-16 f2.8. This lens pairs well with sigmas, it’s sharp and has beautiful colors.
